Before i start my rant i would like to apologise beforehand if i offend anyone here.
I bought my first Porsche 8 months ago, i had dreamed of this moment for years and finally took the plunge. I bought a 996 turbo manual X50. As i drove home in it i was grinning like a little kid the whole way back.
However, in the 5000 miles i've covered in the last 8 months so far i've had to change the accumulation sphere on the clutch slave cylinder TWICE and all the associated perished hoses, the electric windows have broken, the horn has broken, the air conditioning has broken. I've had a new alternator fitted, the oil pressure sender unit has broken and now i've just had it back from having another bearing in the engine replaced.

I has now got to the point i can hardly find it in me to smile when i'm on a nice road late at night enjoying motoring perfection just knowing there's something about to break around the next corner.

The only positive to come out is i haven't had to wash it since before Christmas as thankfully the garage valets it each time before giving it back.

This is my first Porsche experience and i pray it'll be my last. If anyone wants to take this heap of sh1t off my hands, i'll start the bidding at one Egg and Cress sandwich and a pint of Guiness.

Should have bought a Tiv!

Sorry mate, can tell you're stinging. My bothers got the X50 and it's been a cracking car over the two years he's had it.

It's luck of the draw sometimes, Porsche are great cars but occasionally you're bound to get a bad one.

Sell it on, but don't be put off for ever through one bad experience

Of course, if you DO it will be bullet-proof reliable for the next owner for years...

Both my recent Porsches have had problems - my current one is now in a bullet-proof-reliable phase. I'm certain it will be fine for a while and then need TLC. This is the way with cars. RELAX.

Oh...I own a Porsche AND a TVR and if you think the Porker is a shed...you have no idea. In my experience once you get (any) car into a reliable phase it can be fine for years with just regular (and expensive) maintenance.

If you want a car that doesn't break at all ever buy a Lexus!

I presume it was 2nd hand. What's the full story? (From a dealer or private? What was the history?)

Nothing offensive , just very clear you're not a happy camper..............you have my sympathy, and I fully understand the above is a rant, however saying everything is broken doesn't really allow your fellow contributors to ascertain whether you have actually bought a lemon, or whether your car is suffering from what maybe common faults (that whilst annoying aren't major faults)

You state your horn is broken..................a blown fuse ? or a failed horn itself ? either way unless you live in Turin, it shouldn't ruin your enjoment of the car ?

Aircon not working, condenser failure ? or did the system need regassing perhaps due to its age ? How old is your car ?

Electric windows broken ? again a fuse blown or something more serious ?

Clutch slave cylinder accumalator sphere replaced twice ? why ? surely if the car had done less than 8,000 miles since its last failure and the part had been replaced within the last eight months, this part should have been covered under a parts goodwill warranty ?

A quick look at the list of components you state as having broken shows a large majority of them to be electrical, I wonder does your car have a "less than savoury history" you may not be aware off ?

Did you buy the car from an OPC ?

You state you have had ANOTHER bearing replaced in the engine. The 996 Turbo and GT3 engines are known for their durability (as opposed to the "run of the mill" C2 and C4 996 engines)
What reasons were given for the bearing failures ? and have all the faults you've mentioned been fixed under warranty by an OPC ?

Crikey. I've not had any of those issues on my car (also an 02 X50). Other than a turbo pipe blowing off whilst changing from 5th to 6th at 150 meaning I had to drive to the OPC off boost below 2.5k revs and a gearshift linkeage breaking mid-hoon everything else has been stupid little things. Nothing that affected the drivability of the car.

My own fault for trying to be to subtle;'pork scratchings''knucle' and 'spare' not as obvious as I thought.

Mate

Sorry to hear that - the moment of entry to the best club on earth should not be this way.

If its any consolation, I've had 4 of the beasties now, from an SC Targa through to the GT3 and all of them have been great cars (if none of them without their niggles)

Hold the faith - you won't regret it in the long run.
