Need to off load the 996T due to home improvements i.e. a new House! Shall keep the wife's 987 to keep my toe in the water. What would you chaps suggest a budget of £18,000 for a 911 with a running budget of 2,000 per year (based on 2,000 miles) buy?

lhd = 993
rhd = 3.2 G50 or a late 964 ('92 or '93)

Thanks for your thoughts. I've heard the 964 is more costly to service over a 993? I do like the 964 Seems to be a hell of a lot of them around in red and that pale metallic blue. A bit like all 993's were in blue with grey leather. What happened to all the black ones?

964 is more costly to run than either G50 or 993, but G50's are getting old now so you have to be prepared for the odd 'hiccup'.

Obviously though, a good 964 could cost less to run than a bad G50. Safest bet? 993. I recently picked up a very fresh rhd '96 C2 just a whisker over your budget...

Perhaps I could stretch to 20K. I ran both a 964 and 993 brand new under a porsche warranty so have no idea of the running costs years later along with the long term probs. Anything to watch for on a 993?

Usual - tyres/brakes/clutch
993 - leaking steering rack, door check straps
You may also find weeping lower valve cover gaskets but this is cheap and easy to fix.
