Uh-oh. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? I'm hoping to pick up a 1990 964 C2 in a few days and am in the process of sorting out all the joyous sundries that come with getting a new car, insurance being item number one.

Before I found the car I'm buying I got a quote from my current insurer regarding how much it would cost to make the switch from my current car to a 1990 C4 that I was considering. I was informed that the new annual premium would be circa £850. However, I've just got off the phone with them and have now been told (three weeks after getting the quote on a 1990 C4) that I will now be looking at an annual premium of around £1600 for the C2.

This makes me very unhappy.

Have I been naive? Is it usually the case that if you have all wheels driven you will only have to fork over half the premium? I'm aware that there are fewer C4s kicking around and therefore fewer to have been crashed but double the money seems a little steep to me (still going to buy the car though!)

Sounds like a load of pants to me, and time you started talking to other insurers.

Hmm, never heard of that before. With my insurer to switch from a 993 C2 to a 993TT i went from £970 to £1030 a year, fully comp, including business mileage (Privilege).

Agree, sounds like you need to shop around.

I was quoted just over £300 on a 996 C4 when I was first looking. The C2 I went for was another £100 on top.

Nobody could explain why the C2 was 30% more than the C4!
