I notice these are now available for the first time:

www.dension.com/icelinkgateway500.php

Anyone got one yet?
Do they work?
Did it break anything?
Who did you get to install it?

Interesting.. A mater of mine (an electrical engineer) is trying to put something together for me so that I can hook up my iPod.. Will let you know the results..

Still can't believe Porsche don't have this as standard... you get an iPod connection as standard in a 8k fiesta nowadays..!!

I had an Alpine CDA-9847 installed for about $500. Nice neat job. The ipod sits in the glovebox out of the way.

I've had 2 wired solutions on other cars. Thing is this is the ONLY solution for a Porsche with that fibre optic BUS (every car from 2003 on I think) and is just out.

Looks good!

Does it allow you to continue to use the CDC4 CD changer?

Where can we get one and HOW MUCH?

For the CDR-22 I believe I can fit the Dension Ice Link Plus.

But I would rather not have the ipod mounted on the dashboard and as I have an early 996, I don't have a glovebox to put it in. What are the other options? Is it possible to feed the wire to the armrest locked box or somewhere else hidden ? And what sort of price (£100 for the ice link plus kit) for fitting ?

I'm guessing someone on here must have had some experience with this... I would just rather keep the dashboard free of clutter.

Denaldo, i have a slightly different set up, but my ipod sits in the central armrest, and the head unit takes over the ipod, so i control it from that

Does the dension simply plug the ipod in, or does it allow you to control the ipod through the head unit?

If you still have to control the music by using the ipod, it may be best not to have to reach into the glovebox everytime you hate a song that you have no idea how it got on the ipod

I think the ice link plus works through the head unit (but i am sure someone will come along to confirm that).

I probably will end up with it being on the left hand side of the head unit but was hoping for alternative suggestions.

Well, if you can control through the head unit id stick it in the armrest cubby hole. Its an easy thing for the installers to do i think, and keeps it out the way

I checked with a reputable installer last week (Sextons in Wandsworth) and he said that although the Dension Gateway 500 is available now, the Porsche compatible fibre optic connection is not. Dension are apparently quoting 6-8 weeks for this to released, but he didn't hold out much hope as Dension have been quoting 6-8 weeks since February!

If anybody has heard anything different to this I'd be keen to know.

Fitted NAV-TV unit, would have been excellent if it worked.. Full integration to the Head Unit, but after lots of chasing and only being able to see 99 track on the IPOD had it removed.. No Shuffle play option either. Surely someone must be sort this soon.

I have been asking my local Dension dealer for this since early October. The Porsche version is still not available and was supposed to be released in September....... then early November, now December maybe. Unless anyone else has heard different.

Does the denison give you control through the head unit and does it replace the CD changer... Been waiting for an integrated unit since I got the car. But after the last experience just a bit worried.

mine is through the MiniDisc setting - lets me step through songs from whatevers selected and playing and to 'quick jump' to 6 playlists..

It doesnt display any track info, but does the job..

Got the IceLink Plus hooked up to my CDR-22 and a flying lead that comes out near the cubby hole under the CD/Cassette storage thingy. Like someone says above, dont really want a permanent cradle, so just resort to plugging in every time and plonking in the cubby hole.

Was a tad disappointed with the level of control from the head unit in terms of the stereo not really displaying track info well. Also, I'm not a playlist user (dont seem to find time to set them up...one day) so to be fair, buttons 1-6 on the head unit dont help me, but thats not the Densions fault...so I now resort to using it as a normal iPod, ie via the player itself, when safe to do so.

I've seen VerySideways's Alpine unit hooked up to his iPod Nano, and I seem to remember it being far more functional than the Dension "solution". It's "okay" I guess; at least I've kept the stock looking head unit, but half tempted to remove it and resinstall into SWMBO's Seat Altea (with a reprogram) and get a proper Alpine unit.

of course a 300-500 quid aftermarket headunit designed for iPod control is going to be better than an attempt to integrate into the OEM headunit...

One of the cars I looked at had such a unit, and yes, it was great, but I have no complaints with the Denison link, it does the job I need it to.

Still no news on the Dension, however, NavTV have launched this which is slightly more expensive but works brilliantly.

www.nav.tv/show_products.asp?product_id=199

Replaces the CD changer and offers full iPod control from the PCM2 navi system
Cost is circa £450 + fitting but is available now.

Cheers

Chris
