I put some stupid stickers on my 4 month old Cayman for Le Mans. I know I know, stupid, but there we go! Le Mans is stupid . The thing is that when removing a stripe it took some of the lacquer off the boot lid. :gasp:

I was peeling slowly and using a hairdryer, but obviously not enough heat. Removing the remainder of the stripe I used massive amounts of heat and there was no further damage.

Naturally at this point I did what all grown men who feel stupid do - took it to a body shop, throw some money at it and pretend it never happened!

I've just picked the car up and it's absolutely perfect (and polished - bargain!) but the manager said his paint sprayer said the quality of the finish on the boot is poor - and asked if it had been repaired. He said that not only should a sticker not be able to damage the lacquer as that had done but the other paint on the rest of the car (ie. not bootlid) was as perfect as expected.

As I've had the car from new I the boot has not been resprayed so I think this is rather bizarre.

Anyway, not really letting it bother me as I'll stick to the PH stickers only and no stripes next year and it does still look as utterly gorgeous and perfect!!

The offending area was the bit of white stripe at the top of the boot lid. All the rest (including all the PH ones) came off without problem.

You don't know that; you'd be amazed at how many new cars have panels resprayed at the dealer before the customer even sees them because they've dinged it whilst moving it around or something was dropped on it from the upper tier of the transporter used to deliver it.

Just ask young Mr. Guy as to how much business the delivery firms provide him with ....

Pikey,

Off original subject, did you get your hatch rattle fixed to your satisfaction? I've had mine looked at by the OPC but it is still making a rattling noise, albeit less so than before they had a go at it.

Any thoughts, advise appreciated.

A mate who was having some done.

Why not pop across to 'general gassing' and ask there? You'll probably get a more helpful answer.

Pikey,

Did you just have the laquer re-applied, or was the boot re-painted too?, I have a similar problem with laquer on my car door, thanks to 'something chemical' at an OPC (which I only noticed the next day, after a service).

Are you sure it wasnt too much heat, and with the weather we have had making the laquer too soft?

Lacquer re-applied. Paint was untouched.

Fix is 100% perfect - completely invisible.

Fairly sure. Reasons are:
1) the paint expert told me so
2) the rest of the stickers didn't do any damage (and there were a lot of them!)

Like the stickers, especially the stripe! Where do you get such things?

I do think that its unacceptable for the original paint to be effected by a sticker. If I were you I'd complain to the OPC.

BTW talking of chemicals, on my other car (no its not a Porsche) my daughter made a permanent mark with a handprint of suncream.... nasty stuff!
