Anyone know cost of front pads & disks on a 996TT ?
Discussion
Pads are approx £50.00-£55.00. The newer pad design may look different to the ones you currently have fitted as they appear to have some sort of vibration damper on them. They are a straight relacement. Should take you twenty minutes per side to fit. No idea on disk prices I'm afraid.
Edited to add:
That's not a price for a TT, that's for a n/a 996. Don't know if the TT uses a different pad design.

Last change cost me £889 including new damping plates and brake fluid in March at my local OPC. This included 10% discount for being a member of PCGB.

Eurocar parts :-
Textar Pads (same as OEM without the Porsche box ..) - £53.00
Dampers (Porsche Original) - £17.90 each (x2)
Front Discs (Porsche Original) - £135.00 each
ATE Blue - £10.45 (optional if you intend on changing the fluid too...)
=£358 + VAT = £421.59
Changing pads and discs yourself really is easy - pads are a doddle, changing discs just means removing the calipar and a retaining screw. Plenty of DIY's on renntech etc. Can't believe an OPC would charge £400 on labour - scandal !

Dampers I think refers to the 'brake repair kit' which consists of a new retaining bolt for the pads, new split pin and large 'spring' (the damper). Other items you may need are the anti-squeal shims - one per pad but not sure on a Turbo ...
The dampers are the anti-squeal shims, they look like this. The repair kit is the seperate set of items as you say.
So does this mean I can entrust pad/disc changing to any down-home mechanic worth his salt without worrying about problems?.. i.e. What's the point in paying for the expertise of even the Porsche indie boys , when the job is that straightforward? ... Is it about having the right paperwork when it comes time to sell?

I did all 4 corners (discs and pads) on my 993 (C4S) in a leisurely afternoon, on my drive, with OEM parts (from Porscheshop)for £715 including wear sensors (just wish I knew about Europarts then). If I can do it, anyone can. 996 can't be that different...........

My advice is shop around, get some prices & go back to your local OPC tell them you want to use them but they need to match what you have been quoted elsewhere. I have found that most centre are flexible, if you ask. That way you keep the OPC service record, but reduce the cost! having said that JZ & some of the other good independants would be fine for pads & discs!

If you look in your service manual, the only time a brake visual inspection (Pads & Discs) is done full stop is on th Major service at 24,48,72 and 96K Miles. The brakes LINES are checked on yearly and minor only. So therefore having a yearly or minor service stamp means diddly on the state of the wear on the pads or discs anyway ! Brake Fluid is another story as this is time scheduled to 2 years. As advised by a lot of people, the dealer 'stamp' means nothing, the wads of service receipts mean a hell of a lot more IMO...
