Can a switchable Porsche Sports Exhaust be fitted in two stages? i.e. Exhaust fitted first, then utilised for a few weeks before switch and electricals are fitted to finish the job? It's my understanding that it's the electricals which take a loooooong tme to fit in these instances, and I want to get some sound now! Any ideas?

My advice is, unless you intend to track the car and thus need to use the switch to get it passed the noise police forget the electricals completely - I have run my PSE now since March and I dont ever think I have turned the switch off once.

Good advice, the only use for the switch is for curcuits with draconian noise restrictions.

PSE is great, go and do it NOW, you won't regret it, the only problem will be the silly grin as you get over 3000rpm

Enjoy

I can guarantee you will never, ever want to drive or own another Porsche without a PSE

Probably the best Porsche extra money can buy (IMHO of course)

PSE transforms the 996. It should be OE.

And no, you shouldn't need the switch as the default position is always on and it is never noisy - but always wonderful.

PSE at about £1100 plus VAT ? And about how many hours labour might I expect to pay for fitting of just the exhausts without all the electricals ?

Oh, and will it pass the MOT without the switch to quieten it ?

I heard that they normally book it under 7 hrs for full installation but most of this is for the switch. Not sure about MOT without the switch...anyone?

...yes mine is non switchable and it has passed the mot no problems. It gives a stunning sound and i have never felt the urge to have a mute switch. It is not boomy at motorway speeds, obviously a little more vocal but i have done several le mans trips of 1000miles over two days and it never seems to become annoying...infact the opposite, you always get the urge to drop a few ratios and let it really sing, oh and you will never again be able to drive through a tunnel without lowering the windows and flooring it! Gary still doesn't believe that it is a standard PSE after hearing it at the recent Lincshoon...i doubt it will be long until he has his 996 armed with one u

My local independant has one in stock and has just quoted me £1450 plus VAT supplied and fitted - less £20 if I dont want the switch.

Thats about 5 hours labour according to my somewhat rushed calculations - seems an awful long time to swap out two exhaust boxes, but maybe I didn't make myself completely clear about not wanting the electrical gubbins attached.

Oh and my OPC won't do it WITHOUT the switch and gubbins for around £2000 IMS.

I know my OPC told me the non-switch price about 6 months ago .. And I can't remember now.. even though I think I posted it at some stage (Ahhhh the demon drink ... Milk of amnesia 'tis!!)
However they said they wouldn't do the job for me unless the switch was included!! .. They made out the baffles couldn't take the constant 'on' mode .. Sounded like a load of ballcocks to me!!

Anyway , I'm still interested in trying to get it done sans switch, so hopefully someone is going to come along with the definitive.....

that must include the switch - changing the rear mufflers is a 2 hour job for a total numpty like me (incl stella & cig breaks)

Would be even quicker if you used an aluminium drift instead of a wooden one

Two hours, now that seems more like it !

Perhaps we are all getting a bit confused about the "switch", which as I see it merely opens or closes a vacuum-baffly-thingy.

From reading other threads it seems there's also some sort of electrickery which tells it to keep quiet between certain speeds.

I dont want any of that palaver - just the exhaust boxes in the permanently open full "grin" position, just the metal and absolutely no wires whatever.

Perfectly do-able non ?

Ballcock - this thread has me so worked up I actually have the cash in my pocket to get one NOW !!!
