Hi everyone

Can you give me some advice?

Do you think £244 to supply and fit a starter motor to my '86 944 Turbo is okay or not?

Must admit, I hoped for a little less...!

I'm in Teddington, Middlesex, by the way and it's a local garage, non-Porsche....

Thanks for any help!

Tony.

no. get it recond'. it'll take 15 mins to remove and a day to get refurbd. mine cost 40 quid.

many thanks to john fm for this idea. less thanks to the bloke that 'forgot' to recon mine the first tme i took it to him, not 'remembered' until after it was refitted. some thanks to the staff at the A&E on his behalf.

I'd go with what Nervous said.

Alternatively, best to use an independent Porsche specialist for work on a 944 Turbo imho, probably cheaper too...

Porsche starter motors are generally 150-250GBP plus to buy, so the cost for replacement is reasonable. Double check there's not an exchange Bosch unit at German/Swedish or Eurocarparts for 90 GBP. And if you can live without the car for a week, maybe consider the recon option.

when i contacted euro carparts they were 150 + vat + your old motor in exchnge, plus postage both ways.

So that makes 244 GBP look pretty reasonable inc fitting; especially as you can get the old one reconn'd and then sell it on ebay or here.

Thanks guys - incredibly quick and useful replies - superb!

I had to get the work done at the garage, as it bust on Friday evening and I couldn't get the car immediately to my independent specialist, GT One in Chertsey.

At least I feel a bit better now, given that quote info...!

Cheers

Tony.
