A drunken idea that we came up with in the pub last night that actually still makes sense today so worth a shot...

We (me and a mate) are planning on buying a 968CS for around 10-12k to be used for mainly for trackdays/events. We're both too busy to realistically use it all the time so came up with the potentially of sharing the car. Shame for it to sit in the garage.

Anybody interested (ideally two others) to put in 2.5k for a quarter share of a 968CS? We'd then figure out that everyone gets fair use alone and/or go as groups to various trackdays and split entry fees, etc. Nice cheap way to split ownership. Based in London so ideally you'd be from there.

All other costs would be split equally and if the worst happened then we'd probably just get rid of the car so the max you'd lose is 2.5k. This would be a handshake over a beer type of arrangement with a fellow petrolhead so not looking for any heavy formal agreements, etc

Conceptually good idea? Anybody interested?

Go to the same trackday & share?

It's not a bad idea, but wouldn't want to do it with someone who wasn't a close friend.

Does remind me of a similar (possibly made up) tale, except it was for the purchase of an ex-Russian airforce Mig. Unfortunately it wasn't insureable, and one of the owning partners was forced to eject over the Channel. You can imagine how pleased the others were.

I'm a 968 owner and bought mine off two brothers who ran it as a track day car.

Think you would really need to be good mates to avoid falling out though.

A few of the ringers seem to have worked it out pretty well, no?

Agree that it would need some good people. Hence the handshake over a beer scenario.

We're both city types and so the car will definitely sit idle for long periods - thought it would be a win/win for everyone. Without sounding like a city wide boy losing 2.5k wouldn't be the end of the world so prb take someone in a similar situation - more a case of someone who wants fairly regular trackdays, a couple of beers but without the hassle of full ownership or laying out the 10k themselves. I'd be happy to garage the car, etc

There'll be times when everyone wants to go to different venues and other times when nobody wants it but hopefully it would all even out and we'd be pretty flexible.

Anyone interested let us know.

About as sensible as sharing your girlfriend or a keg of beer IMO. But, hey if you can make it work good for you.

There's quite a precedent for this - but as many have pointed out already you need to do it with people you trust in terms of both driving ability as well as "bend it mend it" finances-ability. It's pretty straightforward to run a spreadsheet in terms of serious milage plus costs & apportion on a pro-rata basis. As long as the car's not your p&j there should be no issues - it's replaceable metal etc.
