I've got the CDR23 (2002 996) and so the Dension Ice Link Plus won't allow me to connect my iPod to my stereo. Has anyone replaced their standard stereo with an aftermarket, so they can connect their iPod? (I don't want to 'hard-wire' it - but I do want to hide it in the little glove box behind the handbrake). I'm sure I heard somewhere that a new stereo can cause alarm problems or something lie that....???? Also, I wanted to try and get something that was in keeping with the fascia look. I've got the sound upgrade pack on the car so it needs to be compatible with six speakers and a power amp. Any ideas?

I think Nervy has the Denison thing, but if you're considering a change, the standard Porsche stuff is made by Becker (part of HK now I think)and looks completely at home in the dash.

I think there is a new Dension ICE for those with the MOST bus.

It's on their website.

There are two ways you can go - as stated above the Denison Ice Link works through the FM input and you tune your stereo to a certain frequency. I suspect you could run the connecting leads under the centre consul to the glovebox behind the handbrake.

Alternatively, most Becker head units look very OEM and to be honest the only difference in apprearance would be the fact that the words "Becker" would appear on the front panel where the Porsche logo currently sits. Becker currently do an integrated satnav stereo that I have really taken a fancy to. It looks very original and has full i-pod functionality as well. Unfortunately I currently can't justify the £500 purchase price

On a slightly different thread - are you due to have your PSE fitted shortly? Are you going down the OPC fitting route?

Not true. I have a Dension ICE Link hooked up to the back of my CDR-22 and it is recognised as a CD changer. As a result, you can control the iPod, playlists etc directly from the HU. It does not transmit via the radio FM channels.

There is a new Dension ICE Link that is compatible with the fibre optic MOST bus (CDR-23?)

Yep that is correct but do you not lose the use of the CD changer? I have a CDC-3 and a head unit with a cassette player so although having an i-pod connection would be good, I would still like to have use of the CD changer as well. If both can be used then I will be out of the house within 30 seconds to buy the kit!

Good question! I have no idea as I don't have a CD changer in mine... just the iPod...

hes right, I think nerv has this one and unlike mine you can controll the ipod through the head unit, where as mine you have to control through the ipod.

only problem I had was finding a suibtable mount for it, i have a car kit for my phone so the regular place you would put it was where my phone is, so I had to buy a tomtom screen mount (cost 49 quid from PC world robbin gits) and then modify it to hold the ice link mount, tomtom screen mounts are very good quality though this is why I bought it.

now it sits in the right hand corner of my windscreen and you can flick tracks whilst holid the wheel.

Thanks Darren. I think I'll go and investigate the FM thingy from Dension....I had it in my mind that it was similar to the iTrip thatI have at present (where you're retuning your stereo and ipod every 5 minutes as you come in and out of radio station broadcats to find a 'clear' channel....) - clearly I've been wrong!
£500's a bit steep for the Becker unit (although I know its probably very good). Other ways to be sopending that money at the moment.
You're bang on. I get my PSE fitted tonight - Hurrah! Bought it from an OPC, but getting a friend to fit it. Looking forward to the sound. If anyone is in Derby tonight, you may see (or hear) me....I'll be the one with my windows down, a huge smile, and be revving a little more than usual......

When you have run a car with the PSE you will wonder why all 911's are not fitted with them. To be honest, you will have no need whtsoever for an i-pod link for at least the next couple of months as you will have no need for music in the car because of the sound of the exhaust.

Get both windows down and find a tunnel and floor it in second - you will not be disappointed.

I was going to suggest you start a new thread tonight after you first run with the exhaust on but there will be two problems - 1) you will not want to stop driving and 2) the grin on your face will be so large you will struggle to get it through the front door and to your computer.

Dension don't currently make a CDR23 compatible ICE>Link plus (it only works with the non-optical CDR22/PCM1) but are due to release one in September. You can use the ICE>Link FM but the sound quality isn't too hot usually (but better than an iTrip).

Also, due to the optical connections you can't change the head unit, without changing everything else (amps/speakers) at the same time. We have done this too but clearly it is a little more money!!
