It's unlikely i'll be getting my GT3 in optional colour sample to metallic now. So that means i'll have some extra dosh for more optional toys!
Is Porsche Communication Module a worthwhile option at £1920?

Probably not, if you apply a bit of common sense.

* It looks like something from Dixons

* The standard console looks better in a GT3 and is easier to use.

* Can you rely on Porsche to support it with updates?

* The are, probably, better after market systems (that are much cheaper)

So, only a complete twit would pay the £2500 for the PCM and Phone - and I have

Is it worth it.....NO
But it saves stick on things & extra wires & does aid re-sale on other 997 models, you can't sell a standard 997 very easily without PCM Nav/Phone module. But not sure how that will apply to the new GT3 as it is more "road driver" friendly than before so may be used more as daily driver & need nav for re-sale. It only adds a small amount of extra weight, so shouldn't upset the trackday guys too much. All in all I think we will all need it for best re-sale (NO scream the trackday guys!), still not worth the money though!

Does that mean you have specced the car now, do tell us what you have chosen?

Grant,

I went for 'Touring' spec. I already have track focussed cars and I will use it predominantly on the road.

Off hand, I think I went for:

- Meteor
- PCM + phone
- Xenons
- Cruise
- Heated / embossed seats
- Audio upgrade
- PCCBs
- A few trim things

I would have liked the lwt bucket seats, they really do add to the occasion, but the standard sports ones are much more practical (and £3k cheaper!).

Nice choice. Any news on delivery?
Pretty much what I will end up going for, without the PCCB's, but with full leather & probably Artic Silver (yes I know!).
I also (on your tip) purchased a G-Lock ready for the GT3's lateral "G", it works very well & will help compensate for the lack of buckets, £30 vs £3,000!!

What's a G-Lock? (sorry for ignorance)

It doesn't look much for the cash, but fits on your seat belt & allows you to adjust the lap belt tightly in place, holding you in place through tight bends. It claims to offer 85% of the benefits offered by a full race harness. I can certainly say that it offers much better lateral support than the standard sports seats & is a very useful extra if you are pressing on through the twisty stuff!

I too went for the PCM even tho' early on I was keen to keep car as basic as poss. Main reasons already discussed incl: resale (GT3 is more road friendly no), avoids wires/hassle of portable unit and to be honest it's not that bad...

Are there any 997GT3 people out there who haven't specced PCM yet?

The dealer i'm getting mine from reckons its a must on a 'standard' 997, but perhaps only 50/50 on a GT3.

Does PCM in a GT3 really make it more desirable or does it detract from the GT3 ethos?

I was not a customer for the last 996 series GT3, too hardcore for me as daily driver, I respect my fillings too much (!!), so I had & loved a Turbo.
But the new Turbo just doesn't float my boat, it looks too fussy & I know it's faster, but the 996TT was fast enough anyway, so why was I going to pay another £55k to get into one.
Meantime the 997GT3 claims to offer a better ride quality from PASM, now has traction control, plus other more mainstream options. The appeal of a high screaming focussed drivers car, that is just as fast as a 996TT, with more involvement but enough comfort (relative term!)for a daily driver.
So I don't fit the previous GT3 profile as I am unlikely to do many track days.

After much waffling I can now come to the point, if the new GT3 goes to the same profile as the last one you won't need PCM, if many others are like me & moving into the car because of it's daily driver ability, you will need PCM!

How many of you are swapping from 996GT3 to 997GT3 & how many are moving into the new GT3 because of it's market shift?

If you are going 'Club Sport' spec I think it would look better without PCM.

If you are going 'Touring'/'Comfort' spec then probably worth considering.

Either way there are plenty of after-market options.

I'm going from a 997 C2S to the 997 GT3, partly because I want to 'experience' the GT3 (the TT doesn't have the same appeal) and also because I want to do more track orientated stuff. I like the idea of a more focused 911 (hardcore if you like), a car like the C2S but with the volume turned up (literally).

The fact that it now comes with a few more creature comforts is important to me, as it will be my daily driver and I could not live with a stripped out 'trackday special' everyday. I will put PCM and telephone module into it, as I need them and the few kilos it adds, I am never going to notice. The car will always be more capable than me! Having said that I will spec it with the carbon seats, not to save weight but because I want them, and I think in a GT3 they look fantastic.

Interestingly, when I ordered the car the salesman (with whom I have a long standing relationship) was keen to get me into a TT, probably because they will make more on it? And that supply was less of a problem.

In the end I practically force my 10K on him! and then wait to have my order confirmed.

Summary, I decided upon the GT3 as it has become a little more civilised (important as a daily driver), but scratch the surface and there's a monster underneath waiting to bite your head off.
