Buying Pork in Germany
Discussion
I've been dipping into the site for a while and following the postings with interest. I was toying with buying a Blackpool bruiser but the helpful postings on the TVR forum tracking the fun and games members have been having with engine rebuilds and general unreliability have turned me off that idea at least for my next steed. I currently drive a "breadvan" which I've had for a couple of years (lots of fun and no major calamities). Before that I had some fun with a Ghibli Cup (including £15k servicing cost in year 2 !!) and that was preceded by a 964C4 (which was great albeit with ideocyncratic electrics). Having seen some postings about the supposed great value of Pork available from Germany I was wondering if those in the know could schedule the key considerations/do's and don'ts when buying from a German dealer.I suspect I'll plump for a fairly new 996 at or around £50k. I'm still ruminating on model and enjoying the debate that features on the forum about RS's and TT's etc - currently leaning towards a RHD C4.
I am a bit confused here mate....if you are going to try to buy from a German dealer,I do not know if they are going to have fairly newish rhd C4 's ??
A german dealer will be able to order you a new C16 car (uk spec). But surely any rhd cars he has ordered will come straight to the UK,it's not something I imagine will be on his forecourt.
The recent postings have been pointing out the tremendous value found in LHD 5-12 year old air cooled cars in Germany.
With respect to new cars, there are not the bargains to be had of 12-18 mths ago as the Euro currency has strengthened a fair bit from that time. This will be a major consideration.

just to put it in perspective if you order a new C4 from a German dealer. You will need to add a minimum of say £3k extras to sell it on or live with it.At the mom you coold get one at say a £3-4k saving over Uk list bringing it to about £58k or there abouts.this is for rhd & bearing in mind you tend to get 5 & as much as 10% discount depending upon the model & how hard you push the German dealers.
