I've reading about this with increasing apprehension.
Where do Porsche stand on this issue? If they're resisting honouring repairs or replacements under warranty why don't a few owners get together and take them to court?

Wheels are a safety critical item. Corrosion on cars under 2 years old with less that 5000miles per year is unacceptable. Bottom line.

if were talking about water getting in under the laquer i think youd have to go quite a way to prove that the corrosion is dangerous chum.

Ive been having an ongoing argument with them for over a year
so has many other people
Its an outrage - if you see the new 997 GT3 ... its a different wheel with lacquer so in a way they have admitted a mistake

The subject just winds me up

and dont get Dan on the subject ( THE WHOLE SERVER WILL MELT DOWN )

Why don't WE take them to court for the cost of a new set of wheels?

or, save yourself the aggravation and stress and get them re-laquered?

waits to be asked why we should have to, ready with the reply that youll end up losing tons of your own time just to prove a point and probly just start more 'fkin OPC' threads

When laquer flakes off the bodywork it's not dangerous. However, it's usually fixed under warranty, up to 10 years later.

993RS Speedlines came laquered and soon corroded. Laquering aluminium never lasts long on a wheel. I would talk to Diamond Styling who anodised my Speedlines 4 years ago and they still look new. Don't know if it's possible to do this on GT3RS wheel but worth asking.

When nearly new, at least a couple sets of Speedlines cracked[ off 993 GT2 1996] ........THEY WERE REPLACED FOC...............things have moved on and so have warranty attitudes by the sound of it , though these wer unquestionably dangerous and similar to Tims quote latest ones slightly modified .......

On the GT3RS only, the problem can be seen on the inside of the wheels

Is this due to the excessive heat generated in the wheel from braking hard on track?

I assume they will use the "get out" that using a Gt3 RS on track voids any such warranty claims rolleyes

Rumour has it that the problem is caused by a reaction between the paint and the rim but im not an expert. All I know is that the GT3MKII has the same wheels without paint and does not suffer with the problem.
