Me come to pester you lot once more..

Can anybody tell me what the 996 tt reads

...with the std exauast
...and with the sports exhaust

(@.5 metre @ 3/4 revs)?

You'll gess this is to get past the noise police on track days. I assume I'll have to stick with the std - but if the sports exhaust sounds much better, can one use 'supertraps' or some such to shut them up a bit, and if so, what then does the car read?

(I had to rip the proper exhaust off my R500 and put a dustbin sized silencer on just to get down to 100 db)

Ta for any help chaps

I thought the latest sports exhausts had a dash mounted
switch to put them in quiet mode if required, opens / closes a flap or something..Check with the dealers as there was some delay in cars coming through with these fitted, then they were talking about going back to conventional exhausts etc...
Sports exhaust sounds perfect with this feature, switch to quiet mode for sound test...then proper noise out on the track.

I think X50s are louder than standard (Manu told me). Although Lee77's old car sounded superb at VW in september(tuned to 470bhp plus after market exhausts).

I've just been quoted today for a sports exhaust. The chief engineer of my german OPC told me about the switch, so it is true.

Sounds effing wonderful!!!!!

Hmmmm

My dealer just e-mailed me back and I quote...
"Currently there is no Sports Exhaust available for the 911 Turbo"

Perhaps its a third party / retro fit? Any thoughts or experiences?

I don't know too much about the Porsche system but I'm guessing that it's just a freer flowing rear silencer. Most aftermaket ones contain integrated 100 cell cats which is what allows them to boost power (and cost ) soo much (cats choke turbos) - the Techarts we do come in 3 versions - touring/sport/race.... Porsches are wayyy to quiet.

Walter U - How much did the OPC quote you for the sports exhaust(fitted)?

Isn't this option only available on the 996 Carrera 2 and 4. I've not heard of it being available on the turbo either as factory fit or retrospectively.

I remember Rich1231 having had a chat with Porsche GB who had no problem with an aftermarket exhaust system being fitted on his 996tt, saying it wouldn't affect his warranty.

this is a german OPC fitting a sports exhaust to a year 2002 996 Targa - "around" EUR 2,000.00

I don't know if this includes or is net of VAT. Probably net of VAT, so add 16%.

It wasn't a full-blown quote. I asked "around how much", and was answred "around 2000"

I think I'll go for it - when business has stopped being so crap.

Most modern stuff has to have 200 cell cats now days as the have 2 lambda probes- 1 pre cat & 1 after and the 100 cell jobbies are usually not quite enough for this type of set up.

Iguana - you're spot on - but to bypass this problem we put in so-called "o2 simulators" so the Lambda probes give the ECU the correct readings - theoretically you can then fit no cats (test pipes) but this isn't always adviseable on Porkers - most Porker engines DO need some backpressure.

Incidentally - anyone here ever got away with fitting 10 cell race cats??
