Hi Guys,

I would like to do a few hitoric rallyes next year and I am about to buy a 1969 LHD 2.2E with a 2.2S engine fitted with Weber 40ids carburetors.

The car is in very good order with no rust and the following:
- a full engine rebuild a few thousand miles ago
- a new fuel pump
- 4 yellow Bilstein
- 4 Fuchs 7"x15"
- Bursh exhaust

Here is a picture:

At £11000, is it a good opportunity?
Apart from the usual 911 potential faults (I already have a 3.2) what else should I look for during the inspection?

Thanks for your help.

Raph.

If you're going to do historic rallies, remember they'll check the sound level on the exhaust...

Yep! I will definitely look hard.
Too right to insist on this point though.
Thanks Leosayer.

And the Bursh may not pass?
I will have to do something about this then.
Cheers Deutsher.

I coincidentaly run a 3.2, have completed over 40 Historic rallies, but not both at the same time!
The cut off dates for Historics, for overall awards is 1968. That means if you enter this car it will be in the Post-Historic class. That means that you can only win your class not the whole event. If you were ever in a position to win the whole event overall, your prize would be handed to the crew in the next position down, who were in a pre '68 car.
It's a bit unfair but the idea is to preserve the historic feel of these events and also stop people beating the whole field with a relatively modern and easy to drive Escorts.
There is a 98db noise limit and most classic 911 crews have a rear sump guard for road rallies. The cars have to be standard or with homologated modifications - but you're only in trouble if it's really obvious - like a diff in the front luggage compartment!
The 911 must be a wonderful rally car - maybe not as 'hairy' as some - but it's the ultimate all rounder.
BTW expect around 10 mpg in an 'S' when you're hard at it.
