I have just had my renewal paperwork for the Boxster. Can people tell if they think its reasonable.

2006 2.7 Boxster
Market Value not exceeding £75K (Car Value approx £40K)
6 Yrs Protected NCB
Guaranteed Hire Car and Legal Protection
2 Named Drivers over 30 with clean history
Not more than 12K miles a year
Living in Wiltshire

£563.85 premium

Does that sound OK or should I be shopping around?

I would definately shop around. Whilst the quote seems reasonable you do not present a high risk and you might be able to get it down some more.

Sorry to teach you to such eggs and all that but please bear in mind the level of cover you get if you source a cheeper quote. Some insurers, for instance, will not allow a courtsey car to be added when yours is in for service etc. You don't use this facility very often, but its a pain in the arse when you don't have it.

Good luck - keep us posted with the results?

I should have added that the car isn't garaged so that undoubtedly has an impact.

I have found that most other companies quotes are starting at around the £700 mark. Interesting all of them including my renewal quote have the excess at £775.

My current insurer is Privelege and what is annoying is that if I was a new customer according to their website it would be cheaper by approx £60.

Can anyone suggest a specific insurer that would be worth a punt?

hi catherine. insurance quotes are HIGHLY flexible. if you ring Privelege and tell them you want the £60 discount given to new owners I would be very very surprised if they didnt agree. But before you do that, put all your details into an insurance search engine like www.confused.com - you will get a huge number of comparative quotes which you can either accept or use as a stick to beat privelege further with. I dont think confused.com do tesco or direct line (both incidentally also worth 10mins of your time) but they cover most of the other biggies. FWIW I have been unable to beat the quote from norwich union direct(www.norwichunion.com) for the last two years on both our cars, and nor have any of the specialist brokers I used to use

one other thing - IMHO it IS worth the time spent on the computer. An hour or two trolling the web (made much less painful with confused.com) may save you another hundred quid or more. Not bad for an evenings work

When I renewed A Plan in Newbury undercut Privilege by a country mile.

I only tried them because of the sticky on this forum and was more than pleasantly suprised with the outcome.

The actual policy is with a Lloyds syndicate called Markerstudy and the T's & C's look OK under close scrutiny.

Might be worth a try...

No affiliations etc.

Two people in the same area could have very different quotes from the same insurer for the same car; so many variables to be considered.

Personally I don't believe cheapest is the way to go. Come the day of the races, I want to be secure in the knowledge that I'm going to have as painless a ride as possible. I want a professional and competent organisation looking after my interests.

I'm with Peart Associates www.peart.co.uk/ Not the cheapest, nor the most costly, but they're 100% on top of their game. Give them a call and you could be pleasantly surprised - and no tedious no-hoper call center people to deal with!

Husband used them in anger not too long ago, excellent handling of his claim.
