Is there any?

Is there any way of boosting either the 3.4 or 3.6? Ideally to bring it up to the 360hp mark, or is it just cheaper to buy a turbo or gt3!

Its just there are some real bargain 996 's about, id change wheels, suspension, exhaust etc no matter what i bought, so why not start with a standardish 996 and build it up? That way im kept interested for longer , im terrible for swapping and changing!

But id need to now if there is any worth while mods to get the power up there, heads? cams? supercharging?

Any one in the know or ideally has done the upgrades id be grateful for your input.

You can supercharge them, but the basic engine isn't the most reliable/strongest starting point for such a project..............

Fitted a Vortex supercharger to my 3.4, had a bit of a problem with the mass air meter voltage. Just about got it sorted and some old codger pulled out and wrote it off. Took the kit of and it's going on my new 3.6 this week. www.evoms.com/evo/Pages/SUPERCHARGERGROUPBUY.asp have a look here

RUF do a good supercharger installation.

They strip down the engine before hand to check for problems, then rebuild with the new kit.

Bonus is they guarantee the charger and the full engine for 2 years.

About £10k all in I think.

How about tuning a Boxster? It's an even cheaper starting point.

Sorry, I just love Boxsters.

a charged 996 sounds fun... rear wheel drive etc etc.

We will look at installing the kit our selfs, ive a fair bit of experience with supercharged vr6 golf conversions, we used to do a fair few of them in our workshop.

Ill keep you posted, just need a car now to start the project.....

If you are after 'rwd' thrills then the 996 is probably a bad choice. By your comment i presume you mean it will be lively at the rear or spin the wheels - neither of which a 911 does.

You might be better supercharging a M3 or Monaro (SC 500bhp for 3k) instead if you want something lairy

ninemeister in warrington will supercharge it.I saw a 993 done there ,the customer did not like the wide body turbo so got a narrow body made quicker.I think it put out 420bhp,it sounded nippy.
