I am sure it is a far better investment than a GT3RS. Slower perhaps but I am sure the enjoyment factor will be in another league.

I want one!

I'm with you carreraboy N-GT a sound investment and bags 'O' fun the fact that its difficult to get in/out of, the ride bullet hard and the fact that its got no interior to speak of just adds to the sense of occassion every time you drive it Oh and if you got a lairy colour even better, those GT3's are fine with all their modern amenities and dull colours but just don't have that hardcore factor that real men are looking for laugh you wouldn't be falling asleep in one thats for sure, Oi wake up maximu5

If there was a poll for the ultimate 911, even amongst knowledgeable enthusiasts, I doubt whether it would get many votes.

Most people would probably vote for the 911 they own, or the one they aspire to if they won the lottery - anything from a 2.7RS or 2.8RSR to the latest 997GT3RS.

I would simply say not. For me, the whole proposition of the 911 is that it is _the_ practical sports car - as close as you can get to the 'all things to all men' [and ladies of course : there are many in the Porsche fold] ideal.

As such, the 'ultimate 911' tag must go to something that is devastatingly fast on normal roads without making the normal 'supercar' compromises. Ergo, the ultimate 911 is the 997 Turbo, manual, highly specced with track-unfriendly ceramics, leather and toys.

Not my personal choice - I prefer the more communicative 2WD NA world, hence selected a 996 GT3 as my conveyance of choice. For me, the case for the N/GT to be considered the outright ultimate is seriously hampered by its lack of manners on a crap B road in bad weather (not that I have driven one personally - a C2 is the only 964 I have pedalled, but the ride on even that was quite harsh so I see little grounds to doubt or dispute this opinion of which I read so much). As the ultimate road legal 911 on a track or smooth surface, I think it makes a very strong case [more so than a GT2/GT3/RS] but back on the road I think that the extra power, brakes and rubber of newer Pork are enough to offset the excess lard in a pissing contest for final bragging rights rolleyes.

However : Do I love 'em? Yes. Is it the king of fun on the track? I have no reason to doubt it. Is it a good fiscal choice? Way better than most. Would I consider owning one? Only if I had another car too. And for that last point - is it the Ultimate 911? Sadly not.

Perhaps true, but in his time, race cars for the road ran with softer springs...

yes

[Oh, and for BERGS2 - afraid that it appears to be so. And again. And again. And... Well, lets just say that all points are valid, but the verocity could do with a bit more elastic].
