Have recently bought a 996 cabrio and do not own a garage. I am therefore lumbered with the hardtop which I have no real intention of using. Any suggestions on where I can find a decent storage solution?

Porsche sells two types, one is a wall mount, one is a rolling floor type. Porsche used to sell a more expensive rolling one; the new one is cheaper but is not as well made and is a bit cheap imo. If you have the ability to mount it, the wall mount is nice:

There are also several non Porsche ones, roof mounts etc.

Good luck

Hmmm, the wall mount is great, but the poor chap doesn't own a garage... modern art anyone? Would look nice in the lounge...

If you are friendly with a local independent, they may keep your bits in storage for you. Depends on your rleationship with them and where you are in the country.

Otherwise, you could rent a garage or storage unit locally (expensive and hwy bother...) or flog the hardtop if you'll never use it. They are worth a good grand or so second hand, at a guess.

But then you would lose come resale time +it may well be harder to sell the car , i would not buy the car with out the h/top as its standard fittment and usefull to have

These are the guys I bought my hardtop bag from. When I chopped my last Boxster S in for the new one I didn't bother with a hardtop (no need) so the bag just hangs in my garage waiting for the day I have another hardtop.

Unfortunately I can't give/sell it to you as they have to make a larger size for the 996 roof - its BIG!

The bag will protect the hardtop nicely - is LOADS cheaper than any Porsche solution and hangs on the wall to save space.

Now. You say you don't have a garage? If you don't this is going to be one great big thing in your house. When my hardtop lived on the spare bed my wife threatened removal of priveliges if I didn't get it sorted out! So...you might want to have it stored somewhere.

OPC's do a hardtop storage service where they will take it off in Spring and put it on come Winter and keep it over the Summer. I don't think this is cheap but at least it keeps it out of the house.

Alternatively if you get the bag you could just rent some space in a warehouse - might be cheaper.

Anyway...a few ideas for you.
