The engine check light has come on this afternoon. Manual says take it to Porsche as soon as possible as it could be a problem with emission system...

Given all the warnings in the handbook - is it safe to drive it to the dealer? Presumably this could be an O2 sensor failure or Lambda sensor or similar?

Any ideas whether sensors / emissions problems should be covered by OPC warranty?

Cheers

If it's serious it flashes. Disconnect the battery and see if that does it.

Thanks chaps...

Presumably its best not to drive it hard or unnecessarily then!

The light came on whilst going through a long slow section of town so wondered if it had just got a little choked up. Its otherwise running very well.

MAF is Mass Air Flow sensor - no idea about the warranty question I'm afraid.

mass airflow sensor....very sensitive membrane that meters ammount of air let into throtle body.

these can play up if an oiled k &n type filter has been fitted, it can contaminate the membrane...or just git dirty..........you can clean them with electronics type cleaners...but worth replacing for the guarantee on new part..

new replacemnt part should be just under £100 (roughly)......not sure on GT3 what volume of air is acceptable, but they should get a reading by plugging into their magic box of tricks.

Took my MK1 to OPC East London last week(rather it was flatbedded to OPC) as battery light and ABS light came on last Sunday. RAC correctly diagnosed dead alternator, OPC also diagnosed a faulty MAF. Alternator changed under warranty and car returned to me for next weeks day at BHGP. MAF is also being changed under warranty but is on back order in Germany and may take another week to be in stock. OPC srvice so far has been outstanding -I'm amazed.....
