Can anyone advise me as to the normal oil pressure when a 996 (1998 C4) is at idle but upto normal running temperature? I have just noticed mine is just below 2 and i dont remember it being this low before. During accelaration it rises back upto the high 4s.
thank you

Should be 3.5 bar above 5K RPM with a fully warmed up engine according to the manual.

Ive driven quite a few 996s and the idling pressure is around 1.5bar to 2.5 bar on idle when hot with mobil 0w-40

ditto the last comment. My 3.6 C2 runs at between 1 and 2.5 after it fully warmed up.

Needless to say, that bloodt gauge shouldnt be called an oil pressure gauge, but more like a "paranoia gauge"

I had an issue with my gauge some time back .. It went into the OPC to be checked .. Result was a new binnacle (under warranty) .. In the process of trouble shooting they told me that the acceptable limit for low idle on a fully warmed engine was 1 psi .. Anything above is normal.

It will make your life (and sanity) better if you try not to look at it too much. the thing will drive you mad. The pressure really does drop after a sound thrashing, and when the needle hovers around the 1psi I start to imagine £8000 engine replacement bills......

okay - thanks to this thread i watched it like a hawk this morning!

So. when warming up it was at about 5.

Once warm, driving around it was around the 3 mark (taking it easy)

Idling it was between 2-3 - dropped just below 2 towards the end?

normal?
