The 997GT3 website says
"Maximum torque of 405 Nm is available at 5,500 rpm. When ‘Sport’ mode is selected, as much as 25 Nm of additional torque is available in the medium rev range"

How is this "sport" mode selected? Do you need to purschase the ghastly Chrono Package, or does every GT3 come with a sport button as standard?

The GT3 has the sport button as standard. 997 C2/C4 have it as an option with the sport chrono (i think).
The button is near the gear knob on the 997TT so will be there also on the GT3.

Yep that's right. You don't need the Halfordsesque Chrono Pack - which has far fewer functions on GT3 than C2/C4. I'm certainly not bothering with it.

Worse even that that. I think you have to select the Chrono Package Plus, selection of which makes PCM mandatory. Hurray. I just love Porsche these days. Even selection of the previously no-cost-option Clubsport Pack now makes the carbon buckets (at 3 grand) mandatory. As for what the PCCB cost....*shudder*

I'm not looking forward to ordering mine, as I'll want a few bits on it. There's a good chance I might just order it basic. Incidentally, I note that nearly every car being offered for sale in the trade over here is white. Crap. I really wanted a white one, but not if every second 997 GT3 is white - pity Porsche didn't offer Zanzibar Red on the new car.

Edit - I stand corrected acording to the posts above. Sorry.

Further edit - I've just checked on the Porsche UK website, and only when I sepcified the Sports Chrono Pack Plus, did the little 'Sport' button appear on the dash. Also, the sport button was listed as one of the goodies that comes as part of the Sport Chrono Pack Plus option.

Just to add - you can only have the extra torque when the button is pushed (as mentioned above) and that means that you must have traction control engaged if you want the extra power.

This info came from Titanic visit to porsche HQ.

Just checked with my OPC again, who in turn have checked with Porsche again and yes, sport button and function is standard. You do not need chrono pack. Just as well as my car's already specced on that basis! Unlike the pack on the C2/C4 all the chrono pack does on the GT3 is act as a - very expensive - stopwatch!

Nice one. On a general note, isn't it a shame that even Porsche have now resorted to adding a 'Sport' button (needing, it seems, activation of the TC) on their track-biased hot-shoe? Frankly, I wouldn't under normal circumstances expect to find a 'fast' button in a GT3. No big deal - just an observation.

Couldn't agree more. Just a pointless gimmick. I could understand if the button gave you another 100bhp and the engine was only 'lifed' to take that kind of boost for a minute or so at a time.

Interesting.

There's clearly some confusion in the dealer network about this "sport" mode and its relationship with chrono pack / chrono plus.

Is everyone sure that the "sport" button comes as standard? I too remember seeing it appear in the configurator when chrono was selected...

Yes it's standard. Thankfully the ugly sports chrono is an option and has no bearing on the sport function.

Dealers should know the answers but, in fairness, the GT3 is only just going into production so many dealers will have had limited access to it.

Does anyone know if you have to have the clock on the turbo to give you the 10 second overboost?

That's very charitable of you! - dealers have access to a very comprehensive spec. manual which very clearly lays out what options are and aren't available - I've read it - and exactly what they do. In addition Porsche are only a 'phone call away. It's not as if they have hundreds of products to learn about is it? Mine was on the ball from day one - he only checked direct with Porsche because he could see I was getting neurotic about things! If I was spending £86k with a dealer who couldn't be bothered to know his product I'd go elsewhere.
