Anyone got any ideas to help my friend who has just bought a 9 year old boxster (it looks fantastic). This is his first Porsche, and after only having the car for a week someone has slashed the plastic rear window. Does anyone know if and how to get this replaced...and how much it may cost.
Thanks.

How bad this is is going to depend on the slash.

If its just the plastic rear window then there are a host of places you can go to have the plastic bit replaced. Prices should be £100 to £200 quid (ish). If the slash is in the roofing material then you're probably looking at a new canvas roof.

Your mate could, possibly, look at upgrading to have the glass rear window I believe...

Your best bet is to get a copy of "Porsche Post" (Porsche Club mag) which has many, many ads at the back for specialists who will help deal with the problem.

These guys claim to do a glass rear for £695!

If your going to replace the plastic for glass £695 change the whole roof with Glass for £900 advert on the internet Google search engine? after 9yrs its on its last legs at the seam? unless its being replaced before?

You could always persuade him to spend a bit more and buy a GT3 instead, as they are the best cars in the world and almost a religious experience to drive

Bad luck!

I was quoted about £250 for a new plastic rear screen through Loe Bank Motors in Bury.

To swap the plactic for glass you have to change the entire roof as the folding mechanism is totally different.

Is that true?

I recently read an article in 911 & Porsche World which featured a boxster being upgraded to a glass rear window. I don't recall any modification/replacement of the hood frame being necessary.

AFAIK yes. Think about how the top third of the plastic screen folds as the roof goes down, that might cause problems with a glass screen!

I'm more than happy to be proved wrong but my understanding is there is an extra pivot for the glass screen.
