Great way to spend a few days.

Also nice to see a useful precedent set. Every time Mrs Violent goes dress shopping, you have to buy another watch/expensive bloketoy.

Yeah, weekend was great. The hidden story here is less about the watch but more about when i'm going to quit the city....

I bought the white gold silver faced version. Hint of bling whilst still being understated.

Stainless black faced. Just as nature intended ! (And speak very nicely indeed to the gentleman in the Rolex dealership).

Whilst I have always intended to add a white faced steel daytona to the collection, they are becoming just a little bit common...

Not intended to offend, btw...

It`s knowing you can`t just go out and buy one, (or at least without paying a premium). Madness I know but that`s the way of the world, the more someone says you can`t have something the more you want it. I also like what the Daytona stands for and in stainless it does wear well given I use it everyday and race with it. Obviously in an ideal world I`d like to win one but for the moment I`ve had to settle for buying one, luckily from Rolex at list price (and under pain of death not to sell it on !).

I suppose I see a stainless Daytona in much the same way I view a GT3 996. A lesser car than say a turbo but sometimes less is more.

And of course being a simple country boy how could I ever afford a Rolex in precious metal !

It's interesting that only the s/s Daytonas command a significant premium - often above the bi-metals, which are easy to get at around list. And white golds can be below list.

Original 'Paul Newmans' sell for a lot of money though.

Or, you can check out ebay and fool everyone for £50 eek

oops ... wrong race track, wrong actor .... DOH banghead , mine's the Monaco as displayed by Steve McQueen in Le Mans.

I take it that the Daytonas are significantly more than £2,500!

What's all the fuss about Rolex? I prefer my Patek Philippe in white gold with a dark blue face - simple, understated elegance, like my Targa!

I imagined the graph as you suggested. It started pretty high, and just kept climbing. Which part of the above was the unhappy bit? Was it the expensive hotel? The weekend in Milan with the wife? The Rolex bit? The bit where you were watching the GP live in Italy? The bit where you did a Bruce Willis on the pick-pocket? The few bits where you inferred that you really don't have to corral the pennies, as the pounds are going at it like rabbits?
