Yes I have some advice - after you have test driven one and fallen in love with them buy my late 2002 model 996TT off me for £40K (LHD and 62K miles with a warrantee if you like :-) !
shameless self promotion but a man's got' to do and all that.

You will probably only get a limited insight into any car on a 'responsible' test drive.
Porsche Cars severely restricted the extent of OPC test drives some years ago, following several high profile accidents, which included fatalities, involving Porsches, Ferraris and TVRs on 'test drives'.
Instead, Porsche introduced Test Drive Plus, where you go out with a professional driving consultant (not a sales man) and the car is driven and demonstrated on and off road in complete safety.
If you buy a new Porsche, you get Porsche Driving Experience, where you spend half a day, mainly at Millbrook, on a personalised driving course, teaching you all about the car's systems and capabilities under a variety of conditions.

I would say it is worth seeing how much of a lip there is on the brake discs and whether they are cracked at all. They will tend to skim the discs if they come to them with cracks as the cracks will usually be quite shallow rather than all the way through. I'm not sure though what the min disc thickness is. Make sure the sparkplugs have not been missed on a service (they are tricky to get to and involve removing the bumper). Make sure there are no rattles from the rear which can be heat shields which have broken. These can be welded but will usually break again fairly shortly.
If it's warmed up , and they let you, make sure it pulls like a train. The boost guage is on the left lower stalk and I think it should pull to .8 bar on a standard TT, .9 on an X50. (This may not be sensible thinking about it as one thing about these cars is that you're doing 130 before you know it).
I think the main thing is a full history, OPC or specialist, a decent warranty and a well looked after car.
