Well said that man! These 911 drivers have got they're engines in the wrong place anyway!

Actually I think an exige is a better drive but Boxster is definately easier to live with.

All i would change to that comment would be to add the word 'value' after the word best, then i would
certainly agree.......

Howwwwweeevverrr, people who drive with the wind in their hair
(or scalps) are the members of the public who demand to be noticed! Why else would cut the top off a car ? The public already regard you as a 'tosser' for driving a porker anyway! Seriously, why draw attention to yourself ? Not for driving pleasure, everyone knows the best handling cars have roofs!

Engine in the wrong place ? Really ? Maybe when your driving ability improves and your taste pallet expands you will join us in the most fabulous driving experience ever by becoming a 911 owner.

I know one day you'll wanna be like me!!!!!!

I think the Boxster S (esp the latest 3.4) is a far more desirable car than a 911 cab - better looking and designed to be what it is.

Best value roadster for the one-car no-kids driver IMHO

Can't disagree, and I'm a dedicated 911ophile.

Always liked the Boxster, and the 987'S' is a terrific package. Cayman might be getting all the applause at the moment, but I think the Boxster's versatile roof system steels it.

Agreed. Mid-engined is the layout of all the greatest sports/racing cars including Porches. I really can't see how 911 drivers consider themselves superior when if they read a little Porsche history (Excellence Was Expected for example) they'll find that Porsche themselves have been tring to get rid of the rear engine layout for the last 30 years for some very serious technical reasons.

There is no greater day-to-day car than the Boxster. If you're allergic to fresh air then amend that statement to read 'There is no greater day-today car than the Boxster coupe'.

If you need a roof to go fast, why hasn,t Mr shoe maker specified his f1 ferrari with a fixed top and a sunroof,
so coupes aint the best handling !!
I prefer the boxsters neutral handling even to my ferrari 355 spyder (also a convertible),which was great except for the 5 grand a year mandatory main dealer service, kinda makes the rms issue small potatoes especially if you partake in the ever so good value warranty!
the boxsters rock......love 993s though, even if they have an austin allegros dashboard, which is there only small letdown,oh and the strange tea tray thing that extends at speed, which i happened to mention to my mate after driving his with appalling brakes ,was the best way to stop the damned thing !

The Boxster didn't have the roof cut off. It was conceived and engineered to be a roadster. The 911 Cab was an after-thought.

I note from your profile that you don't own a car and the boxsters your wife's. Are you going to put your money where your mouth is?

What's next after a Boxster S? Something engineered as an open top mid engined Sports Car. Mmmmmm, F430? nah it's a coupe with the roof cut off. Lamborghini? nah they've not got a true roadster just more coupes with the top missing.

Guess only the Carrera GT fits the bill....

Having just gone through many weeks of hassle/fun chosing a new car. I chose a 996 C2 over the Boxster S for many reasons.

Little tiny soft tops are for girls (ie - they are physically small, women are more concerned with looks than performance/handling etc)
Boxter didnt handle as well and wasnt as fast in straight lines or corners
Boxters are for poor people
Boxters are for young people
Put the two side by side and tell me which inspires more passion!!
Boxters are for poor people

To be fair the Boxster S was a superb car but didnt really compair to the 911 IMHO.

By the way old chap, Boxter is spelt Boxsterteacher I think you will find that the experience varies dramatically depending on how it is fine tuned. For example, most dealer demonstrators have sports exhausts. A 911 has to be a fantastic experience at that price so they make sure it is. I have to question the proposition that the 911 handles better than the Boxster but Im sure it can be made to feel that way. I always have that sneaking feeling that I'm about to be overtaken by my tail.

I agree with the man who said try a Honda S2000. No hassle to insure and service either.( Provided you havent too many points on your licence of course.angel)

I really couldnt be bothered owning a Ferrari. Imagine the compulsory annual shafting at the dealers. Why bother. Some enjoy it of course drunk Now, a new XKR,well then...evil

reply to lotisi....... I did put my money where my mouth is and bought a kind of 911 with a big fan above....Robinson R32.

I also have a honda fes 125 pantheon which is another great real world scooter,it can cut through any traffic jam and return 100 miles per gallon,so im not ALL about status symbols and pub talk.

I must admit im on the loock out for nice 993c4s or maybe turbo , then i can join in the great 993 v 996 v 997 debate ,which is what its all abut yeh?

Great site though and good banter!

Why is your or any other boxster s a better day to day car than my 996 twin turbo i have more space to put stuff a little more power (500 bhp) case i need it (in the wrong lane gap ahead if i miss it have to go another 5 mile to get back ) air con, two windows and a sunroof if i get hot so no need to put the roof down and look how do i put this "silly" silly , 4 seat's , more traction if it's slippy or snowing you no day to day stuff
Also why is the boxster the best real world car on the planet i live in this real world and think my car is better please tell me why it is not because i'm very confused good banter though
