All this talk about how good PSE's are has given me the motivation to look at costs / alternatives. I called my local OPC and was quoted £2124 for the PSE fitted (2002 C4S). I also spoke with Scuderia Systems in Egham about the Tubi's (which they believe are better). The Tubi will cost £1400 fitted.

Questions

1. With the exception of the switch (which I doubt I’ll use) is there any reason why the Tubi would be a bad choice?
2. I'm told that the Tubi won’t affect the warranty. Anyone had any experiences to make me question this advice?
3. Looking at Tubi's website it says the Tubi exhaust will increase power by 22bhp. Does the PSE do similar?
4. Lastly, has anyone on here got the Tubi sports exhaust? If so, are you happy with it?

Thanks

£2k sounds very expensive. Was thinking of getting the switchable PSE on my 997 and was quoted £1560 inc VAT and labour by my local OPC (Chiswick). Also thinking about Tubi.

why on earth go to an OPC?

for example £1055 + vat and they would fit for another £100-200

recommend Simon as a good bloke too

No power increase with a PSE, butthe sound is just incredible....Tubi system defintely worth a look for that price and power increase - if it's true. Check with Porsche ref the warranty though. I imagine it would be an issue if something went wrong.

Bit of a steep quote from your OPC. Maybe buy it from an OPC and get a specialist to fit? The switch is a nice feature but, trust me, you'll never have the volume turned down.evil
Get to an OPC and hear one if you can.

had my 997C2S fitted with a Tubi - it sounds simply awesome IMHO - went down to northern Italy and tunnels are now a wholly different experience to the way it was when standard - I would never go back - I think the 22 bhp increase is with the full system which is well over £2k fitted - I discussed this with Manu - the back box system adds 8 bhp (allegedly) and is all you need for the aural enhancement and boy does it make a difference - it also feels faster but that might be placebo effect from the sound

warranty depends on what goes wrong - mine has been into the OPC (collected and delivered back) and they just said how great bit sounded - if the failure was exhaust related you could end up in a fight between Porsche and Tubi - what are the chances - you pays your money and takes your choice I guess

I'll be at next Vmax so if you are coming to Brunters happy to demonstrate and see if it increases the top speed - I had 180mph indicated on the gps on the A9 north of Munich so suspect that's low 170's - hopefully I'll get into the 170's at Vmax- there should be other standard C2S's and maybe one with the PSE to compare (Craig/Daz do you know what is coming yet)

Might be silly question but are the Tubi's street legal?
All reference to the 996 fittings on

www.scuderiasystems.com/products/S-TubiExhaust.htm

seems to suggest for racing use only ?

I dont agree.I think the PSE sounds hollow and artificial.I had it on my C4S and it sounded like a spotty 18 year olds vauxhall nova with a hole in the exhaust ..imo of courseeek

Most unlike you to have a contrary view Kc ... Get out of bed wrong side this morn!!?? ... (or maybe you haven't gotten into it yet!)

Having heard the PSE up close and personal for the first time this weekend , I couldn't agree with you LESS .. I think (flameproofs) Porsche managed to produce an exhaust that faithfully reproduces (without any fancy electronics) the time honoured sound of a flat 6 oinker.

Yep, I'm with Ballcock on this one.

PSE is much louder throughout the range than mine or DucatiGary's but it's a great noise.

There was a slight bhp increase with Wetwipe's too on the Rolling Road. Sports exhausts add another great dimension to the 996, I think they should be compulsory.

You listening over their in Dublin?

As for the warranty I've made several successful warranty claims with my third party one.

I had a PSE retro-fitted to my C2S by my OPC for £1700. Sounds fanastic - dont listen to kayc. I was advised by an indendent at the time that the tubi would affect the warranty but I have no idea if this is really the case.

agreed, love the sound of PSE, sounds like the classic porsche.

sublime throaty burble, hmmmm

and yes it is louder than the gemballa one on mine and a totally different sound than mine produces. (mines more bassy low down with no burble, then after 4k rpm it howls, more like an italian car)

sleep envy all torque, bluey and nervy all experienced it on full chat !

tubis sounds nice but wouldn't want to pay a premium over OEM which sounds as good and is original - tubi will affect warranty if something goes wrong related to the exhuast but how likely is thtat?

I've heard good things about the Cargraphic systems. I think i'm going to get the 100 cell cats + super sound silencers on my GT3 for around the 2k mark.

I'd imagine that would give you more power than the PSE which is just silencers?

Decided to definitely get the exhaust replaced on my 997C2S. Struggling with the same old Tubi vs. PSE. According to the Scuderia website they are adamant that fitting a Tubi does not invalidate the OPC warranty. However, I really don't want to be piggy in the middle in an argument between Scuderia and Porsche in case anything goes wrong.

As much as I want a Tubi (something cool about getting proper aftermarket non-Porsche parts fitted) I think it'll be the PSE for me.

I've also noted on the Scuderiasystems website that all of the systems offered are:

'For racing use only'

That means all their systems are illegal for road use or am I missing something on their website?

I am having my GT3 fitted with a Tubi system and it is road leagal you need to talk them through what use you want. Test pipes are the loudest/can offer more power but also can trigger engin warning lights on more modern cars so you need to think about re mapping.Test pipes also dont have cats so will fail the emission part of an MOT.
I am having mine fitted as soon as the 100 cell cats arrive at my local Ferari dealer

Excuse the crap spelling im lesdyxic

Yes but each unit is stated as:

'For racing use only - fits to the original OEM catalyst'

so even with the OEM cats, they are illegal for road use according to their website.
