Dealer bid/offer spreads.
Discussion
Very old and worn out subject but i had to make a comment..certain dealer selling an 01 'y' plate tt with 49500 miles at just below 50k.Same dealer 12 months ago offered me 40k for a similar tt with 25k miles'as no-one wants them'...Either mileage counts for nothing?,the bid/offer spread is at least 20%?..or 996tt prices are going up?(unlikely).Once again this confirms to me how much profit indies/dealer are working on and distorting car values in the process.

Or the car is a triffle on the dear side.

I'm not defending dealers (too much) with this post....BUT
- They pay to stock the cars etc etc (assuming they're not like some of the crappier ones who are SOR only)
- They spend x hundred on prepping the car, the odd one requires servicing/tyres etc
- VAT on any profit
I've always worked on the assumption that if they offer me 100k, they'll retail it at 110. They'll spend a grand on my car, accept 107 for mine, so make 6 grand less VAT, which is just over 1k, leaving them with a little under 5k on the deal. On a 100k car a 5% margin doesn't sound unreasonable.
Obviously the same logic on a 50k car is not as good. It also helps to explain why they want to take such big spreads out of supercars - for the price of taking a CGT into stock tehy could buy x Boxsters....
for example if they make 3k on each 40k Boxster, they'll wanna make over 20k on a CGT, probably a little more given the increased risk of having a CGT on their books in case it drops 10k in the time they have it

Oh no sir. The letter X signifies mystique and intrigue hence all top secret projects are denoted by it ie Project X-71.
Y on the other hand has such a low expectation of it`s self and stands for dissapointment and dispair. "Y oh Y did I bother". "Y don`t you just go out and find someone else then if my cooking is that bad" and so on.
So as you can see by rights we should actually be charging a little more for the car.

I bet your invited to dinner parties all the time kay...

You're not at it again are you David?
Although, I've got to confess, I sold the 968 cab you sold me and bought a manual 993 c4 a couple of weeks back. A hernia operation has since curtailed my chance to drive it for a week or so. Now that's frustrating! Loved the 968 though so will probably get another at some point.
Your Targa looked like a nice one when I (briefly) saw it.
Cheers.

but i thought mileage wasn't important!?

No, not to the condition of the car but it dictates the most we can ask for the car if you remember. So if the car has done 100k miles that isn`t a problem, but we can`t ask £40k for it no matter how good a car it is whereas if it`s only done 15k miles it could be worth £40k but it`s condition will dictate the actual value up to that point.
Hope that clarifies the situation.

Well you know what its like Richard, and I have hankered after a 996 Turbo for some time! Nice as it is the Targa was the wifes choice and I spend most of my time in the 928 and Turbo II. Think I could swing the swap as long as I buy something new enough just have to be careful she doesn't insist I get rid of two for the price of one, I love the Turbo II and can't really ever see me not having a 928. Glad you enjoyed the 968 and quite a step up to the 993 I think it would be hard to go back to a 968 after that, unless you get both ! but thats how I started
