Late Cayman Delivery...again !!
Discussion
I ordered my Cayman S back last April and was promised delivery on my Birthday 3 weeks ago. I had a call the day before telling me it hadnt arrived and has told it would be here the week after, then the same happened again so I played up and now I have finally got a collection date for Saturday ( could have been Friday, but have got prior arrangements )
The OPC dealer informs me they are taking receipt of my car and others on Thursday and I can have it Friday if I want, but as I said I went for Saturday. Now my issue is, I have gone for this Autoglym thing and have read up a little about it but seeing as it normally takes 4 days to turn a car around once it arrives at the showroom ( dealer told me this ) now they can do it with Autoglym in 24hours.
Will they skimp on something to
1. Get this car out to get me off there backs
2. They need to do the sale by Saturday for their September Figures ( dealer told me this too ).
So, can they do this Inspection and Autoglym thingy in 24 / 48 hrs or should I hold out and let them get the other cars rushed out to ensure mine is carried out properly?
When the Dealer asked me about the Autoglym, I said yes as I had it before on a Dark Blue Audi TT and it worked quite well so went for it again. I said to the guy bet you get a nice commision from this , he says pennies. I have read elsewhere on the other Porsche forums that they get a tidy commision so which is true?
I'm going to use this angle and the ' I think your rushing my car, and I have concerns it won't be done properly ' angle to maybe get a reduction in the Autoglym by possibly threatening to cancel it.
Whats your thoughts lads.
Now this car is a BIG deal to me, I'm a regular guy not loaded or a stockbroker lol and its always been my ambition to have a Porsche and now some of the shine is being taken away
Thanks
Tony

Autoglym Lifetime Finish can be done in less than 6 hours, but it is advisable to let the car stand for 24.
Now the bad news; the stuff costs the dealer less than a £100, they pay the car valeters peanuts and the autoglym products are about £30.
But still worth it if you don't have time to clean and wax.
Additionally, best time to do it when the car is new.

Sorry to hear this, must be very frustrating.
I wonder if it's "gone somewhere" that you'll never know. The reason I think this is because when taking the stickers off mine after Le Mans (Pic here if you're interested) some of the lacquer pulled away at the top of the hatch. Removing the kneejerk reaction "well you shouldn't have put stickers on it", this should have been fine (the stickers being designed for this use) and is extremely rare.
I took it to a body shop and the expert examined it, then asked if it had been repaired, then if I was the first owner. Turns out that the top of the hatch had been damaged, and repaired before the car had ever reached me! Apparently what happens is cars are damaged in transit and the dealer has to have them repaired before the customer sees. As with mine the repair had not been done to the same quality as original, I found out.
So, just thinking, maybe your car sustained damage and they're correcting it....?
Just a bit more info on this.
The sticker that did it was the stripe, not the PH smiley. The stripe was fine coming off the rest of this, and the 5 other cars that we stickered. The body shop bloke said it would be 100% fine to put stickers back on it - particularly his repair area, and he'd put his money where his mouth is should the lacquer be damaged when removing stickers from it again.
Did I tell the OPC? No. Life's too short. They would deny the repair, then say it was the sticker that did it. Move on!

Surely you could prove the repair with use of a paint depth gauge?

Its sorted, I collect it on Saturday now.
Yes I caved and let the car tax thing go well its only £17 ive lost( whats that when youve just forked out 53K+ ) and I have been waiting long enough.
It arrived this morning and they PDI'd the car ( what ever that is) and Autogylmed it today.
I got a free set of Car mats for my trouble.
Will do my best to get a reduction on the Autoglym on Saturday.
With a bit of luck Cardiff City will turn over Wolves and then it will be a PERFECT DAY.
Cheers all for your help

PDI - Pre Delivery Inspection. Make sure everything works, affix number plates, road test etc.
Free car mats? 53k and you still have to pay for them? Jeez.
Get the reduction done now on the Autoglym, Saturday will be too late. Now is the time to negotiate!!!

Excellent stuff! You'll forget about the delay pretty quickly as the car is such a joy you tend to forgive & forget the OPC's delays
PDI is pre-delivery inspection. It's where the dealer checks that the whole car works as it should do. Your contract is with them, not Porsche (factory), so they also need to cover themselves legally (ie. that the wheels don't fall off and you crash).
For example, they'll check that the rear wiper works (if fitted). If it does, they'll tick the "wiper checked" box... or if it doesn't they may tick the box anyway
Also they'll check that both keys open the doors, front bonnet and rear hatch and if it does put a tick in the "keys checked" box - or b*llox to it and just tick that box as well!
Niggly things, but when you've paid for them to do the PDI and find 2 things they haven't, you're a bit miffed at having to go back in and also wonder what else they haven't checked. So where's your first journey going to be and can we expect pictures from you on Saturday or will you be driving it too much?!
Pointless fact - if the 13th character of the VIN is a U, it was made in Finland, if it's an S, it's made in Germany. I've got a Finnish car

Finland - great country..!! Us Finns like to think Porsche is at least a bit Finnish nowadays...
At last my Cayman S and first ever Porsche is here and I collected it on Saturday 30th Sept.
My wife says I havent stopped smiling since.
Couldnt sleep on the Friday night and was like a kid on Christmas eve and when I got up Saturday morning half expected to see a Xmas tree downstairs and a turkey roasting in the oven.
Well I collected it, service at my OPC was pretty poor and they have got to have it back for a valet (done now ) to sort out a few interior Autoglym water spots inside.
They just took my money, a thank you a briefing on the car then I was off.
Now I half expected some sort of free gift as I wa supposded to collect it on my Birthday and was let down and when I recently bought our son a new Honda Civic the Honda Garage gave him loadsa freebies, this car was over 3 times as much and not a sausage.
Had a quick run around Saturday as Cardiff were playing in the afternoon ( and we won ), but the next day went around Brecon and the Elan Valley with the wife. Loads of nice empty winding roads and it felt great.
Did over 250 miles and felt on top of the world and in some places in the Beacons I was !!, these are great windy roads around the lakes and the views are spectacular. Its 90 mins drive away for me but well worth it for all those deserted, non Gatso roads. Car got a bit messy but gave it a quick jet wash on my return and it looks like new again.
In case anyone wants to know its
Midnight Blue with Sand Beige Interior...well I think it looks good lol
19" Sports Design Wheels
PCM ...came in real handy yeterday
Bose Speakers...probably a waste of money but does make a difference I think
Heated Seats...not used yet
Climate Control...had it on many cars and is a must IMO
Full Leather...does finish the interior off quite nicely
Embossed Headrest..well they look nice
Rear Sensor...a must
Dimming Mirrors.. seem ok not done much night time driving yet
Multi function Steering Wheel...this is really good and can control all aspects of the PCM from it.
6 Disc auto changer... I know it can play MP3's but thought it would complete the sound system better.
Coloured Wheel Centers... they looked nicer than the plain ones that I saw in the showroom.
Oh yes as I was driving North towards mid Wales saw loadsa Porsches driving South together and some flashed me too...nice touch, didnt see any Caymans tho !!
Thanks for reading and hopefully will be able to reply here more often now with my views over the coming months

Im guessing that you have bought your car from Porsche Centre Cardiff and I am suprised at the service level as I thought that particular dealer group to be very good.
Having said that, when I picked up the Boxster from one of their other branches I have to say that the experience of collecting a Porsche from an OPC to be quite a non event. Indeed since purchasing the car there has been no written communication from the dealership or for that matter Porsche GB. I should add I am not unhappy with the dealer, indeed I have an excellent relationship with the people within the OPC.
On the opposite side of the coin we picked up a BMW 318i M Sport from one of their BMW dealerships and the experience on collection day could not have been more different. In addition I have had no end of communication from the dealer and BMW GB since I bought the car.

I've also had the similar 'non event' experience of the local OPC, a quick run through things then the feeling you're keeping them from other more important business.
No follow up at all, then a complete saga when they changed a perfectly good gearbox for no reason - but that's another story !!
I think they have a certain arrogance as they never really actually have to 'sell' a new car. As it's a Porsche it doesn't go wrong and you could never be unhappy with it, so no need to call or follow up !!
I can see this not being an issue for the regular buyer, but you'd think they would make an effort for a first timer.
It does spoil the experience, although out on the open road for the first time it does tend to get forgotten about fairly soon !!
