997 c2 or c4s - which is better
Discussion
okay, dumb question, but the more i look at the two cars on the porsche website, the less i undersatnd!!
got a 987 boxster which is a great car, but, under that stereotype of never being happy with what you've got, i can't help looking at the 997 carrera s and 4s. put bluntly, which is the better car....and why?

Wouldn't say either is 'better'.
They have the same power/performance stats. The 4WD version is a bit heavier but has slight traction advantage. It is also slightly wider at the back and more expensive.
I'm on my second 997C2S and find it stunning. The car is very surefooted even in the rain we've recently had and not once have I missed having 4WD. I personally couldn't justify the premium for the 4WD so went for the 2WD.
However, its purely a personal choice. If you're interested, book some test drives and see which you prefer.

You'll sacrifice a bit of economy and agility with the C4, and it'll cost you more than a C2 to buy. Just depends on whether you feel you really need (or would simply prefer) to have 4-wheel drive. Personally, I'd go for a C2 and would put the money I'd saved on 4WD towards some nice options.

Just to provide an alternative opinon, I thought I'd add a few thoughts on the 4S:
I'm extremely pleased with my 4S, having traded up from a BMW M3 and an Audi S3 quattro before that.
After a few 'issues' with my M3 in the wet /snow, I was keen to investigate the 4WD alternative on the 997.
Having driven both the C2S and C4S I was impressed with the traction of the 2WD version, but in the end decided that the 4WD was better for my needs - In general driving and when pushing on, I couldn't find a noticeable difference between the two, and certainly I didn't feel that the 4WD was particularly nose heavy or was significantly more prone to understeer. On a track I'm sure that this may be more of an issue, but my car will be driven in all weathers and 99% of the time will be on normal roads.
I also liked the fact that the C4S was much rarer, looks even more aggresive due to the wider rear haunches, and has the brake assist feature not on the C2S.
I've spoken to a number of others who have made the same choice as me, and neither of them regret going the C4S route either.
Having said all that, I'm sure I wouldn't have been disappointed with the C2S either.

C2s .. The C4 feels a bit 'numb' in comparison.
If you are happy to go for a car for looks alone and want the lardy arse , then go for the C4S.

sorry for the slight thread hijack - but saw a 997 c4s the other day - crikey that has a BIG arse...... thought I saw the rainbow warrior following it at one stage trying to get it back to sea.....
