It’s been a really very tough few weeks. And as a result I'm going to have a brand new start, including new house, job and a change of car.
I love my gt3 so, so much, but I’m going to get something less flash and serious (cos I’m just neither of those things) and replace it with something a bit more stylish, cheap and fun (in addition I’ll probly get a daily hack to supplement this). I've always loved the 356 so I’m going to get myself a replica, a chesil or the like.
So then, to the questions:
Firstly, have any of you folks owned one?
Secondly, I’m a biggun (6 ft 4 and built like a brick latrine) so will I actually be able to get in one? And if I can get in, will my head stick over the top of the windscreen? If not, do chesil et al do different seat designs, layouts etc to cater for the larger gentleman? I’m going to view one in a week, but if someone knows already this will save me the time of the journey.
Thirdly, could I actually use it every day if I wanted? Or will it need to be fettled and nested on a bed of peacock feathers in conjunction with its own personal AA man? and would I actually be able to go across europe on week long jaunts and stuff, or are they for afternoon cruises only?
Fourthly, just how slow is the generic 1600 engine that lives in them? Will it be fun, or just a little frustrating? It doesn’t need to be a flying machine, but being able to overtake rovers is always nice. Or do other engine'd models exist?
Fifthly, can someone find me a black one with red leather, please? I can’t find one anywhere.
Lastly, they appear to range between 10 and 25 grand, with little discernable spec or condition difference between them, can anyone tell me why this is? Is it a model/type/ incarnation/ year of manufacture/etc preference or just that some have built by some one stoopid and club fisted like me?
Many thanks in advance, good people

Yes, you could use a Chesil everyday if you went for something sensible like a 90hp 1800 with injection (assuming you would fit - i'm 5'8" and i fit great).
No you would not have to molly-coddle such a car, just treat it a bit special - waxoyl before the winter sets in, regular servicing (6k miles), etc.
They really are very very good fun to drive too, and the chicks love 'em

I've always been a fan of these along with beetles and campers etc.
I've never owned or been in one so can't help you on many of the questions above!
However on the Engine side of things, if you want something with a bit of speed you could probably fit a Porsche engine of somesort or there is a company local to me that fits Subaru engines into Beetles and Campers which I would assume will fit in the Speedster.
