renting a car for the ring this weekend

I take it you're flying Ryanair, then? That must be a first - stepping off (or jumping off if they charge extra for stairs) one of O'Leary's flying slave-ships and walking out of arrivals to rent a 997. Though you'll have to rent something, as in Ryanairesque, Frankfurt is probably closer to Vatican City than to Frankfurt. There are a couple of outfits in Germany that will rent you something like a Lotus specifically for the track. Limited Cars in Hamburg do it, and I think Red Sport do something, too (they're not far from the 'Ring, either). As for Hertz (and others) that will rent out a 997 and similar - make sure it's OK to 'Ring it. Some of the rental companies are wise to what goes on and don't much like it - if you prang it, you could end up f*cked.
Hertz and Sixt also offer snazzy machinery. It's a bank holiday in Germany tomorrow, so you'd better be quick arranging something. It's the bane of my life trying to rent stuff here as everything nice is usually reserved - which is a problem as I can't stand goddamned Mercs which there never seems to be a shortage of, and I'm usually last-minute. The GF runs a travel agency here. If you need help, I'll get her to check for you on Wednesday - PM me.

Don't know about Avis, but Hertz have a policy of applying a worldwide lifetime ban to anyone found driving their cars at the Ring and (apparently) have photographers at the circuit to check for it, so you don't even have to crash there ...

2p ticket, carryon only, no coffee, bus from airport.........all in all you get what you pay for and can't fault it.....YET.

All this "you cant take it on the ring, bull", clauses me arse,
just rent the 997 C2s its got 107bhp less than your GT2, dont crash and you will be fine!! Its just a car, there all the same. Seats, a steering wheel and an accelerator pedal...
BTW, make sure you cane the arse off it, drive it like its stolen.

I don't think so - not unless Aer Lingus plan to tippex the word "customer" from all of their training material and replace it with the word "gobshite". It's still a mystery to me how O'Leary managed to so ruthlessly ape Southwest's gameplan without incorporating any of SW's affability towards its patrons. It's probably because the guy himself is an obnoxious cnut.

Always quiet when rains, bikers go home!!

I know - I just had flashbacks to when I (very cheekily) borrowed one of my OPC's 997s for a weekend and mysteriously landed at the 'Ring on my way to the shops. I was all piss and vinegar on the way there. But once I rolled up to the gate, and the realisation that I'd have to move to Columbia if I stuffed it set in, my sphincter puckered up so tight it nearly tore the leather on the seat.
I didn't enjoy a minute of it - and I've over 200 laps down there, so it wasn't so much a fear that I'd lose the car. It was more that fear you have when you're standing at a ships railings and wondering what it would be like if you fell in.
