i think the cats on my '53' Cayenne S are shot. Pungent smell of eggs on start up!! Anyone had experience of changing these and likely costs?

Not necessarily a sign of bad cats, just sulpher in the exhaust fumes. The engine will run a bit richer when cold which makes it more noticeable. Unless it stays that way after warmup it should be fine. What grade fuel are you running and bought where?

That's normal (it's sulphur you're smelling). Will go away once warmed up. Surprised you haven't noticed this before.

I have changed a set on a cayenne S as they were blocked...only 36000 miles..!!

As long as power is still there you should be okay just normal smell.

Wouldn't think so; just use the grade recommended by Porsche.

Dont be so bitter. You'll be able to get yourself something nice one day, just keep working hard and stop trying to be a comedian.

Cayennes are excellent cars, if you need a lot of interior space and still drive something that resembles a well sorted road car a Cayenne is a good choice, think Audi RS6 Estate etc...

I fond all too often they are dismissed by people who have never driven one... sure, the car is not the prettiest car on the road - but I have not driven a better SUV type car yet.

What is the link between the RS6 and the Cayenne ? I've driven both extensively and don't think they have much in common at all. IMO RS6 is a far superior drive and 1000% better looking. Having said that, I don't think the RS6 drive is fantastic, it's just far superior to the Cayenne.

911 Nutter, have you deen driving the car hard now and then? This will help clear the catalists and avoid clogging.

P.S. The Cayenne is the BEST 4 wheel drive in the market (as long as it has the pneumatic suspension fitted.(PERIOD) Better than the Range Rover and the Tuareg.

yes..it is a bit "specialist" isnt it...not one 4x4..how will I be able to cope with the mountains and snow in SE16. Saying all this-er indoors is making noises to say she wants another 4x4. I've talked about "my dead body" to which her reaction is that I will be once she runs over me!

Yes...a "gorgeous" yellow Boxster...and i can imagine the reaction of the farmers when you turn up in your Volksw..sorry I meant Porsche..bet they add 10% on to the price of everything...AND I have no issue with 4x4s per se..its the Cayanne that makes me want to heave..

Porsche were right to make a 4x4 but it should have been one that adhered to their core values (which do not include bolting the BIGGEST BADDEST engine on to make something overweight go fast). Instead they should have moved the game on by making a large but lightweight vehicle (eg the same way Audi and Jag have done with the A8 and XJ8).

Instead they have made a machine that seems to have gained the adualtion of WAGs, ladies who lunch and the nouveau riche.

Fortunately not everyone is as judgemental as you.

Strange that Audi are doing the Q range now. Maybe their playing catch up rather than moving the game on. Jag on the other hand are Fords are they not. Mercedes have released their new shape 'M' class - so things cant be soo bad.

Like i said, dont be so bitter.

It's a shame that my first post here has to be like this but it would appear that there are alot of dreamers posting in this section!

As a fellow Cay owner I know all too well that Porsche is a very envied marque but it's such a shame this green eyed monster has to keep lurking on boards and taking jibes at the fortunate owners!

Paracetamol - I can only assume that your desire to push the envelope of car technology is epitomised by your 1.8 Auto Passat???!!!
