playing around with the porsche configurator I'd end up with

Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) £ 1,030.00
Sport Chrono package £ 507.00
Sports exhaust system £ 1,022.00

the latter is shockingly expensive for an exhaust, but it is described as

"With modified silencers. Includes switch in lower switch trim to activate the sports sound. In conjunction with Sport Chrono Package/Plus the sports sound can be activated with the sports button. Note: available from approx. 01/2007"

and I'm intrigued by the idea of switching the sport sound on/off depending on wether i drive for fun or because i have to ...

has anyone seen/read/tried that ?

That could, possibly, maybe, give you an idea whether anyone here has used the PSE

The switchable factory sports exhausts were very common on the 996 C4S and other 996s. I would like the idea of it personally. If I was coming back late at night I wouldn't want to wake the neighbours, so I would use whisper mode. Probably leave it loud most of the time though, but good to have the option of quiet mode.

That will be the first time you can order a boxster with a switchable exhaust. There was a Sports exhaust option on the 986 but it looked hideous (IMHO) Can't wait to get that retro-fitted to my 987 bounce

Is it going to be available for the 2.7 and the 3.4?

I didn't choose it when I spec'ed my old 997 and regretted it every day I owned it. However much they're charging, it's much cheaper than getting it retro-fitted. Do it!

Got the switchable sports exhaust on my newly aquired 996 and believe me you will not want to press the button once you have heard it on song.

Loud is good, the neighbours will only be annoyed that they do not have one.

An essential option if that makes sense...
You will never turn it off though. I press the quiet button when leaving for work really early and then press loud again at the end of the road

afraid not - the 986 also came with a switch function

personally I would pull the fuse so it is on all the time (annoying for it to go quiet at 3-4000 or whatever the range is just for some German/EU regulations)

sports chrono makes that worse as you can';t have sports mode off but exhaust on, an option I would avoid and get Bose or many other things instead
