PPI expectations?
Discussion
I used them a couple of weeks ago.
They sub-contract the inspection to whichever of their "panel members" covers the area in question. The car I wanted looked at was in Coalville so they allocated it to GCR Pure Porsche in Leicester (who had actually already been recommended to me when I posted a thread on here asking for suggestions). They then contacted the owner to arrange for the car to be taken to GCR.
I had a good chat with Chris at GCR over the phone and then a 3-4 page handwritten report came through in the post around a week later.
I had another PPI done earlier this week (I walked away from the first after Chris's report) and paid Strasse £100 + VAT to do it, rather than the £275 that Sportscarguides charge. Strasse faxed me a copy of the 117 point checklist they use for their PPIs and called me to talk through the points on which the car had "failed" to put them into context (since none of them were serious - just cosmstic issues or niggles that could be rectified cheaply)
If there's a reputable indie close to wherever your prospective seller lives, it will be much cheaper to do it directly and avoid paying the middle man.
That said, the service from Mark Wibberley at Sportscarguides was fine and I had no issues with the actual inspection carried out.
Where's the car in question? We may be able to suggest someone to do it for you.

Thanks for that.
I just got one done yesterday with them at Sheffield.
All I've got so far is a 2 min chat on the phone and an email
with a copy of the Porsche 111-point checklist ticked appropriately.
As the car had already had one of these for warranty, I was expecting/hoping
for more from the PPI. I guess a 2-3 page report as you got rather than just
a checklist.
Am I being unreaistic? It doesn't seem very in-depth/good value for £275

Ah, you must have been one of the people Mark Wibberley mentioned when I spoke to him about doing a second one for me, as the car in question was in Sheffield - he said that they had someone who covered that area and would be able to fit me in this week alongside the ones they were already having done there.
I had to chase for the report - I got the impression that they thought it wasn't needed as I had already indicated I was probably not going to proceed with that particular car. I would probably have felt rather short-changed if all I had had for my money was a quick phone call and a faxed tick sheet.
Who did the inspection? Why not call them back to have a more detailed chat about any queries arising from the inspection?
(As it was, that was all I got from Strasse but I felt that was fine given that I'd paid almost a third of the price for it and they did point out after the initial chat about the "failure" points that I should feel free to call them back to chat them through in more detail once I had seen the ticksheet report)

Millbrooke cars in Sheffield did it...just gave him a call & had a longer chat.
He says there's not much else to say as he couldn't fing anything (non-minor cosmetics) wrong so it'll be a short report & he normally wouldn't have done more than the checklist
Thanks for the thoughts.
Short-changed is the feeling I have, but I still don't know whether or not I've got value for money?

If I were to tell you that one of the guys from Millbrooke posted on here last week and, when I asked him what he would charge to do a PPI, told me £100, that may help you decide whether you got good value for money or not....
(I guessed it may have been them that Sportscarguides would get to do the inspection - that's what put me off using them again once I realised the extent of their mark up)
I had a car inspected by them a couple of months ago (I was selling). The buyer bought the car but the process was a nightmare. The inspector repeatedly failed to turn up, then tried to get me to deliver the car to his premises (20+ miles away), when he finally did arrive he was a dreary pain in the proverbi@L. More importantly his report, which I read, was, how shall I put it, creative and seemed to be overtly touting for trade. A couple of points that he outlined were incorrect and he said some things needed doing to the car that didn`t need doing.
Luckily I got on with the potential buyer and he both ignored and complained.

I've just come off the phone to a cleint in Spain who is delighted with our service, and advised another this morning, who will probably not even have the car inspected as its known to us, on storage, retrimming and rebuilds, advised a cleint last Thursday on buying a Cat D, got him a real insurance deal and have dozens more cleints who, like them, really value the comfort we give them.
