Thinking about purchasing a Cayman S and initially liked the Guards Red. In fact still do, however, the dealer mentioned this colour was bad for resale. Any thoughts?
thanks,
Francis.

Do you want a car you like or one for sale. Guards red Cayman in Tonbridge OPC the last time I visited & it looked stunning.

Personally I love Guards Red, but then I would, I have just bought in that colour.

Resale value will not IMO necessarily be altered, but there may be a slightly smaller market.

Go with what you like I say !

Exactly, smaller market but also fewer cars so it makes no difference

Excellent, only one week on the forum and 8 days into 996 ownership and I've helped someone.

Now go buy that Guards Red Cayman, if the dealer is so adamant that it's harder to sell, tell him you want a discount

Why are you thinking about selling it already? Just buy what you want and forget what the stealers are telling you..

Based on the number of demo/used Caymans and 911's at Porsche Centre in Swindon I would say that there shouldnt be a problem with re-sale.

This is why other sports car owner dislike Porsches and their owners. More worried about depreciation than the joy of ownership. I live for the day when a generation of Porsche owners buy with their hearts and not their heads (or worse someone elses head!)

We need more orange 997's and I want to see a relfex green Cayman!

I think there is more obvious reasons why other drivers dislike Porsche owners. I'm looking forward to owning my Porsche but the reason I can afford one is that I do not throw money away. If there is a small depreciation attached to the guards red colour then I can live with that. I do not want to be stuck with a car in two years when I'll have a burning to replace it for another model.
Cheers,
Francis.

People dont seem to have the same venom for Aston, Lotus or TVR owners.

There cars themselves are some of the best on the planet so it must be something to do with how the outside world perceives the owner.

It cant simply be jelousy. I think that the brand is too aspirational and there for too obvious. It attracts SOME owners who dont care about history or engineering. They simply want to keep up with the Jones' and the Porsche sits nicely alongside the Hugo Boss suit, Rolex watch and week in Dubai. The colour choice is a refelction of this - no imagination.

I spent a while trawling through the second hand cars on the Porsche UK website and was annoyed by the lack of colour (read individuality) choice.

Shame you are based where you are.

There is a guards red cockster at OPC Colchester at the moment. it looks fantastic and although I never thought of buying one in that colour, it makes all the dark metalics look pretty crap really.

you would certainly stand out in it

Red. Definately red. Get it detailed so it doesn't fade then never wash it (aside from removeing brid cack). Red looks great when it's really dirty.
