It never rains but it pours. In addition to some rust fixing, new tax and 6 month service, I need to replace the now borderline legal tyres on the back of the 964.

Blackcircles.com have the required Conti N2s for £140 a corner, fitted. This doesn't seem to bad, but I am slightly nervous about getting them fitted at any old tyre fittment centre that the website suggests. Does anyone have any positive / negative experience of using this service?

I used them a couple of years ago, and had no problems. The local garage who fitted them seemed to know what they were doing. I'm coming up to needing a new set next year, and will consider this againg

best bet is after ringing round your local tyre bays then see if black circles are cheaper, past 2 times they have been more on supply only than buying form a local bay supply and fitted.

If you go for supply only and then go to a decent local tyre bay if you talk cash then they will usually fit for around £10 a tyre, usually cheaper than black circles.

Most important issue is the fitting. I got a full set of SO2's fitted to my RS recently. At the time I was really pleased with the time and car taken, they even washed the white adhesive from the tyre wall when they had finished.

Unfortunatley the washing of the tyre wall masked a big chip taken from the paint on my nearside wheel. I only noticed this when I washed the car 3 or 4 weeks later...too later to prove they did it. I know 100% that they did it because none of wheels were chipped or scuffed before I went and I only drove the car to the tyre fitters and home again on that day (4 miles in total).

Just be careful and pick a garage you know and one were you can watch closely what they doing!!

ahey, you saying that they washed the wheels and tyres and this hid the chip?

I would have thought they would have covered the chip with grease and left it all on if they wanted to cover anything up imho

No. What I meant wash the fact they washed the wheels covered the chip. I wasnt saying it was intentional just that it made the chip less noticable when glancing around the wheels before leaving the place.

what size?

Why would you buy from an opc, possibly the most expensive place for tyres?

In that size, N2 Conti's in stock at £125.10 fully fitted, £100+VAT supply only.

Headley Tyres, Newbury.

Quickfit will probably match

Crikey. My local Kwik-fit (Leeds) needs to order them in but that's still quite a difference. Will apply some pressure.

I used these chaps on my Audi A6- A really hassle free service and I had no issues with balancing etc and they were careful with the wheels.

Another thumbs up for Event Tyres, I have used them in the past on my Boxster, and they are coming to put a pair of Eagle F1's on my Skoda on Wednesday, they were cheaper than black circles and alot cheaper than all tyre places locally. They will also be fitting new tyres to my 968 in the new year.

Tried Event Tyres but sadly they won't come out to work or home - cheers for the suggestions though.

Winner is Alba Tyres in Horsforth (suburb of Leeds) - £137 per tyre. Just beats blackcircles and supports the local economy. Sold!
