Hi Guys, thinking about a MK1 GT3.
Owned 993 C2 in past and basic 996 doesnt do it for me. Im really looking for soemthing that wont depreciate like a stone. Its either:
1. 996 Turbo Like idea of performace but concerned over running cost.
2. 911 C4S. Like th looks and seesm to hold value
3. GT3, does it have rear seats? Can I live with it day to day. Im 6'4" and long of leg.

Comments/ experience please.

Probably - I manage to. Remember that it is very low so if you have to encounter road humps/steep slopes/car park ramps regularly then you might find it a pain.

yesYou should be OK: I'm 6'3" and don't have the seat anywhere near its rearmost travel.

looking at your name i dont think you'll have a problem using a gt3 every day ,there aren't any rear seats ,access being the main problem if you have the recaro seats. with just sports seats it would be ok but you would have to fit seat belts !!,the gt3 is a different car to drive than a standard 996,don't know if the limited numbers will keep prices high but i obviously hope so....rgds johnzy

Thanks guys Id want to carry couple of kiddies soemtimes. I assume you can fit rear seats and belst to GT3. Anybody done it?

Think GT3 is my no 1 choice.
What do I need to be wary of?
Is high mileage a problem|?
Are their any particular weakness compared to 996.
Fisrt cars are now 6 to 7 year old. Will suspensaion need replacing and if so how much.
Has anybody purchased a warranty and can they recommned it?

Ta Mark

PS Sold me Elan Sprint earlier this year and you would be surprised how much room thier is in one. Doesnt compare with 911 though.

You'll have no problem with legroom being 6'4" but personally, I wouldn't fit rear seats to tranport kids in the back, mainly because the rear is a pretty noisy place due to lack of soundproofing, with engine noise and vibration very noticeable.

You'll also have to fit reclining front seats to get the kiddies in the back.

I don't think you can put rear seats in the GT3 if it didn't have them when it was first registered as it will have been homologated as a two seater... so if you want a four seat GT3 you better call Porsche and find out if they made/sold any.

Old wives tale. Nowhere on any of my registration or insurance documuments highlights a difference between GT3 and 'normal' 911. However, from a safety viewpoint, don't carry kids unless you put reclining seats in. In the event of an accident, they won't be able to get out!

I think its actually illegal to have rear passengers in any car if the front seats are a fixed back type,i.e non reclining or lifting as in the case of an accident it is too hard to get out of the rear.

I had just this decision to make earlier this year and after a lot of debate, most of it on this site, I went for the GT3. Totally awesome car. IMHO though, not an everyday vehicle. I kept mine 3 months and sold it to buy a Turbo S which I much prefer. I think the GT3 really only truly shines on a track or when driven on the road irresponsibly. The rest of the time, I found it too hardcore. The turbo is a dream and is what I should have got originally although I am glad to have experienced the GT3. It is after all, a matter of personal taste. As an aside, I too have 2 small children and looked to carry them in the back. Spoke to my insurance company who made it absolutely clear that to place anyone in any part of a car where there was originally no seat would IMMEDIATELY void any insurance I had. Just not worth the risk.
