I "dont believe so"

Tell them its is a factory fitted alarm that comes as supplied.
They can tell from that, at home I "had" some documentation, if I remember I try and look it up...

the alarm part WONT be CAT1 and the immoby "may be a CAT2, but I doubt it.

Doesn't matter if its cat 1 or 2. If you don't have the istalation certificate its no good for insurance. They always require the original certificate.
If it matters brand new cat 1 alarms are about £400 so depends how much you save.

The 'factory fit' alarms and imobilisers from that era were made by www.hamilton-palmer.co.uk/

Your local OPC should be able to provide you with a letter/certificate if you give them your VIN, though a few may want you to pay for the privelidge. Hamilton and Palmer themselves are always very helpful and can supply spare immobiliser keys if necessary

yep forgot to say, as long as you have a "certificate" that its been correctly fitted then no probs.

Mine came with dealer one and subsequent one i have cert for.

Insurance DONT usally ask for it in advance, I suppose if it goes walkies they may ask to see it !
