996 C4S First day impressions
Discussion
Wow - what a fantastic car. Bought the car from RSJ and would highly recommend them - Joel was always happy to respond to my numerous emails checking on status and such. Really decent guy who appears to put up with a lot of shit from customers to be honest. Seems to boil down to people assuming he's ripping them off as soon as they walk through the door.
Anyway, back to the car. Initial impressions are that it's really stiffly sprung and damped. But the chassis is rock solid also - when your front wheel dips into a rut, you can actually see the top line of the windscreen moving too. In my Cerb even with the dampers set to hard, and uprated springs you always got the impression the chassis was playing 'catchup' with the suspension. Not so in the 911 - it's absolutely rock solid.
Can't fault the grip either - i've managed to get the psm light flickering once, and that was simply on a slow speed off-camber roundabout where I deliberately applied too much power too early. But the point is that very little happened - just a little flicker of the light. Car stayed right on line and just thundered off down the road.
Oh yes - 320BHP. Was a little worried that compared to 350 in the Cerb and the lardy C4S might mean I was left wanting. But it's a different kind of drive - porker seems to get 90% of that power down 90% of the time, whereas the Cerb was more like 60% 60% of the time. So (the oft quoted phrase) in real world conditions it's as fast as a bat out of hell. Really; for some junctions/corners around here I really can't imagine a faster car, 996 turbo included. It's just a ridiculously sorted package.
The spoiler squeaks, have spotted a few marks and scratches I didn't see before, and I see that 21mpg is what i'm going to be expecting. Also the stereo (non-standard) is confusing the hell out of me. But it's got to be the very best car i've ever owned, full stop.
It looks absolutely fantastic (obviously imho), got acres of character, fantastic chassis, brakes .. oh yes, the brakes. Forgot to mention. Thought they were wooden and stiff to start with. But they were just -perfect- when I took it out this evening for a little blat round some twisties - the more you push, the more feel you get and despite being at this early stage i've got a lot of confidence in them already; I can feel that i'm nowhere near their limit.
So, to sum up, it's a great car. Hard to fault - if anyone is wondering whether they should spend the extra on a turbo (as I was) I can say that whichever choice you make you won't be disappointed.
Track day already booked - Bedford 8th Dec! The only unfortunate thing is that i'm going with two other 996's - both turbos!
Pics to follow ..

Good man. We need some photo's. I totally agree abput the 90% / 90% comment when comparing to a Cerbera. Plus my kids are happy as Larry getting in the back (6 and 4). My wife doesn't like green though (see profile). 996 Top Car.
HA!!!! .. Same colour combo as mine , rain forest green and that simply heavenly Savannah interior .. watch out though , many of the plebs here don't have the same superior taste buds ... PEASANTS
... Oh , the C4S is a bloody gorgeous looking car .. Congrats.

I went out and puposely looked for Green / Blue with Savanhaaaa interior,.
Mein Gott in himmell ('Battle' comic German) .. That's the exact combos I was looking for .. Even worse .. I wanted (and got ) full savannah from ankle to collar...
Rappa .. You're going to have to check for birth separation marks

Agreed,
My old man has a Metalic blue/blue one and I think its the bollox.
Shame he doesnt drive it like its supposed to be driven, but it is very fast for what is now regarded as a fairly modest output for a porker.
Best looking 996 IMO - wing and vents of the turbo spoil the look. Bloke down the road went and put a turbo spoiler on his silver 4S. muppet.
Hope you enjoy it mate
