Really nice day Misses gone shopping thought i would go out for a blast as you do,by the way been running Shell V Fuel for a while has made a difference.Going back to the start some really quiet roads around here, giving her a good work out as you do forgot the quote,"Slow in Fast Out"to hot into a corner of a road i know well back end stepped out,Big Wake up call. After all that rearranged my underwear and carried on speed dip for about 10seconds then back on full tilt really good day.

So it's still possible to lose a 911 on a corner. I thought Porsche had managed to do away with that kind of thing. Glad I wasnt out walking the labrador.
Well, the basic fact is with rear wheel drive - if you apply enough power to brake traction ANY car will oversteer - with the 911 the engine is in the back just to add to the problem once it happens..
Porsche can improve the suspension no end - but they cant beat the laws of physics im afraid!
Happened to me the other day whilst exiting a wet roundabout. The tail just flicked out without any warning - suddenly I was fighting to hold the car straight and fishtailing from one side of the road to the other... the thing is I was merely coasting around the corner at a VERY moderate speed. Because I was caught out, and was off the power, It was very hard to bring the car under control again.
Still...No harm done...Be careful out there....

IME the 993 has a funny old attitude to sliding - every so often, usually low traction surfaces like greasy roundabouts or exits from petrol stations (diesel on road, presumably), the car will snap big-style and fishtail like, well, a giant dog-eating catfish.
Other occasions, I can load up the car into a quick corner and fire out with a handful of oppo, all 4 tyres working hard and no snappiness. It also does gorgeous 4-wheel drifts as well.
I can only assume that there's a big difference in balance due to weight transfer - all the really satisfying slides in the porker have been when I've been committed, on the gas and driving out of a bend with a bit of sideways. The scary ones have been at low speed, not enough acceleration to get the back end to squat and grip, resulting in a snap from the rear, instinctive lift-off and resulting fishtail.
Now my car is an ancient stone-age machine according to some of the wags on this forum, so I'd expect the modern, up-to-date nanotechnology-age 911s to have solved the problem. I guess it's yet another 'I canna change the laws of physics, Jim' situation

Had this is a 930 a bit too, if the fishtails keep getting bigger putting the clutch in seems to stop it.
However - the 911 has a reputation...... but mid engine cars do too. Lift-off oversteer can start an Elise spinning so fast you can't stop it, also MR2s, MGFs, Boxters etc. Mid engine stuff can let go much quicker than a 911 cos all the weights near the centre so it can turn fast, whereas at least on the 911 there's a big weight to slow it all down
Of course mid-engined cars can also stop turning faster, but it might be too late by then - anyone got statistics of spins of 911s vs mid-engined cars?

Dr S she is Alive and Kicking my Butt that is !!!The silly thing was it is a road i have been up loads of times and a really good twisty one at that.On saying that "She" just kept me in check just a little reminder of what she can really do when pushed a bit to hard. For many years fast sports bikes have been my passion, so the bikers out there would understand that the roads arround here are flat out knee down twisties.
