New to Porsche ownership the oil gauge on my 911 is flicking up and down all the time and then on the odd occasion doesn,t read at all but the car has correct amount of oil in it and the oil pressure is absolutely fine any ideas on the problem ............ also when i turn the ignition on i can hear what seems to be like a buzzing or a fan running ... the heater fan is switched off ... is this a porsche trait ????

oil guage on the right of the display?

thats the oil pressure - so up to the max when you accelerate, and a little pver half when general cruising

Or do you mean the guage if you turn the key halfway? mine makes no sense to be honest, so only trust checking it myself

The oil level gauge will be up and down all over the place when driving.
Only time it will make sense is with car at a standstill, on level ground with the engine HOT and idling.
When adding oil fill halfway between min and max on dipstick. (engine running)
