No problem: don't panic!

Don't rush to give the car away cheap because you're going to become a Dad in 6 months or so. You'll simply resent the little s*d when it arrives.

When you need to, buy a 3 year old VW Passat estate tdi (or something similar) and keep the Boxster. Then when you've got over the 0-18month equipment peak, exchange them for a 997. However, bear in mind that you going to be suffering from sleep deprivation for around 4 months after the birth, so it is a good idea to make these big car-choice decisions before the birth.

Actually you won't need anything as big as a Passat but I accept that you'll think you do. FWIW my parents had two young children in a Riley 1.5 (about Fiesta size) and our first family car was a 964 + roofbox - it was more sensible than my daily driving Caterham.

Sorted.

No. The Boxster is definately going.

Would just like a bit of advice on what I should be asking for it.

I don't profess to know much about Boxter prices but given you have £4.3k of options would make it a £40k car when new, and about £1k+ a month depreciation = low £30's rather than high £30's.

I say this not to knock the value of your car but there needs to be an incentive to buy your car i.e. it's cheaper than new or to go for a new one & pay the extra few £k to get the car to your spec.

Hopefully the potential price drop is enough to justify keeping it!

Just done a check on the Porsche website to check exactly what extra's the car does have (just listed what I thought originally).

Turns out there's another £3k worth eek

In total there are £7.5k's worth of extras on the car, making price when new just over £47.5k eekeek

They are so, so easy to overlook. I mean, leather covered vanity mirrors, storage box, wind deflector, etc, etc. Thought these would have all been standard.

this isn't a blatant plug though for the car which just happens to be in the classifieds nono

Not as far as the used car market is concerned there arn't. Many of these option will effectively depreciate 100% as soon as you leave the OPC. It may make the car easier to sell, assuming either there's a 'must have' for a particular buyer, or there's a choice of two similar cars.

I still think you'll have to go to £34k to sell it quickly. My suggestion to hang onto it & buy a wagon for the baby is still financially the best option

If you can get a dealer to bid at this time of year I would have thought 32-33K trade

Its a 55 plate, so 3.2 litre.

Porsche have said around 37k p/x against a 997 (albiet a month or so ago)

BMW originally offered 30k against a used 535d.

Will see what I can get out of BMW properly tomorrow as am test driving a 535d AM Sporty thingy.

that's pretty amazing. applying the 10K spread rule of thumb for OPCs implies it will be on their forecourt for 47K. shurely shome mishtake?

I'd have thought OPC would offer 32K Px, private sale 34-36K?

Expect to get roughly 10% back on options when the car is sold.
As SS7 said, they may make the car easier to sell but the purchaser wont want to pay you extra for them.
