Alright all,

So as the title suggests this is the second variocam ive had done on the car, the other one went a few months back and the warranty company paid up then with a little but of a struggle to agree the labour rate.

Anyhow the second one went and now the warranty company are being a bit arsy saying that i have to prove its broken. So the car wasnt working now the variocams fixed it does is that not evidence enough?! NO of course not. They want me to strip it down and show them the broken bit... WTF!? has anyone done this AFAIK its a sealed unit how would you get it apart without resorting to a saw????

Thoughts comments advice ... appreciated

You havent given any info on the car, exactly what was broken on the variocam etc....

If you speak of the 968, if the variocam was done properly it shouldnt go again so quickly, I would be wanting to have words with whoever fixed it.

sos, its a 996 hence two variocam units 1 per bank. Hence left bank had one a while ago and right bank one has just failed ...

thanks for your reply barry,

The problem i guess then is trying to prove the part is bust given that its no longer on the car. Maybe if we try and rig up some power to it off a battery then when it does nothing we can convince them. Other than that im at a loss and of course the onus is on me/the garage to prove its broken rather than the warranty company to disprove that.

Surely you need it fixed anyway so take it to the garage, get them to strip it and identify the broken parts... then claim on the warranty if its broken.

BTW - in this months Porsche Post there is a very good article concerning identification and rectification of broken Variocam units.. I suggest you get hold of a copy pronto
