As you all know Im an out and out Porsche man
I have the T-shirts/Posters and the Cars ........... but
Now I have fallen in love with the Nurburgring ring and after trip there a few weeks ago belting round in the Alfa 75s ( not going particulary fast but having fun trying trying to keep up with the more quicker machines + the cars are well balanced ))
I have been contemplating buying a car for the ring Ive thought of 968s/Alfa 75s 964s
Then a call by chance put me touch with the world of a E36 BMW M3 GTs - these are limited production cars produced in 1994/95 with 295 bhp ,lightweight doors/bonnet + lots of Standard upgrades and all in British Racing Green -50 in RHD and 350 total production - I drove one this weekend and was very Impressed with the power and handling .
I think I will be more happier learning the Ring in this car rather than a car costing 9 times as much

They're cool. Wasn't it an M3 GT that formed the basis of EVO's 'Ring car? I only remembered because I nearly bought one myself back in 1999. Chickened out and got a boring old M3 Convertible instead. And that same year I didn't bother buying a 993 RS as well. Muppet.

If I gave the car to SP ... he would easily get to near 8 mins

Im having the car set up for the Ring

its needs H&Rs /Eibachs /poly flex bushes but suprisingly the brakes do

not need changing as the ring is not hard on them

Tim,
To take advantage of what you are trying to achive here.......don't spend too much on the car. Jethro B's car in Evo ended up costing loads, which would defeat the object of what you are trying to do. Sounds like your conversion will be cheap enough though. You getting a cage/harnesses/buckets? Ditching the rear seats? Sticky tyres? Very intesting idea.
