I've got the chance of buying a replica circa 73 911 RS 2.7 based on a '67 911 and running a 3.0 SC refurbed motor. Includes 12 months MOT service and warranty for around £17k

Is this a nightmare waiting to happen or a good buy? May have to use it for regular work related blasts from Kent to Bristol and I'm keen to have a relaible car that i can sell on without too much hassle...and loss!

Any help very much appreciated!

Surely it's a swb?

My guess is it would be too much of a mish-mash.

If you want a 'classic' 911, original is best

If you want an RS replica, it needs to have been done properly, ideally on a 72/73 model, and will not be cheap

If you need to use it everyday, forget it. £17k would buy you a good 3.2 Carrera or 964. Better still get a really nice used Boxster 2.7 or Boxster 'S'.

Is the car in question white/green? If so it has been on/off the market for a couple of years. Ask the question on www.ddk-online.com

Or if it is the blue and white swb 67 car that's been around for ages as well last time I saw it, it certainly wasn't 17k's worth. More like 8k imho

I think an RS replica could be a good buy, but I just get the feeling that this might not be. It all depends on who has made it into a replica. If you want authenticity, get the real thing. If you want a replica for everyday use, you have to consider one of autofarm's 2.7 RS (3.2 Carrera) replicas. They're not cheap, but they have to be just about the best compromise.

I'd echo the "go original" remarks, and suggest having a look at my silver 2.4T/E in the classifieds...

It's much classier than a replica, and probably drives better too - lots of power and torque, plus a really well sorted chassis that is great fun to pilot...

An original will appreciate more quickly in the future too judging by what everyone is after at the moment...
