Just woke up to a email of pictures of me at the ring last weekend in a hired 997 cab..avis said its illegal and said they were charging me for new brake pads and tyres....!! looked at my credit card and they have taken 2k off it without my permission... Not very happy as u can imagine... when i dropped car back the tyres were in fine condition...!! they never told me about the ring and i cant see it in the fine print in the contract...surely they cannot take money of a card 10 days later after the car was signed in at airport as being fine... ??
I'd get onto the credit card company pronto, and start a complaint against Avis. If the documentation that you have doesnt specifically state that the Ring is banned, then AFAIK, its just a public toll road.
In any event, I'd be wanting to see documentary evidence that they tyres and pads had actually been changed, rather than just billed for.
Looks like its time to start covering the plates when you visit the Ring then...

I think they can use the card like that..the only deciding factor will be the small print on the contract about track use etc..i have certainly had money taken from my card albeit not 2k, with respect to unpaid petrol etc when abroad.The reason they take a print of the card or a get you to sign an agreement is to enable them to take money at a later date if they feel you have breached the agreement.Get someone legally astute to study the contract.kayc said:

Sorry, but I did warn you (someone!) of this beforehand on this forum. Thread here. Their procedures for policy abuse are well practiced after being caught out a few times.
You hired their car for road use and ragged it on track. If you want to rag a car on track you'll find that other companies do it, but for a charge that reflects the risk and wear & tear - many times higher than what you would have paid.

Just a small question...why didnt you take gt2...coz it might knacker the pads and tyres?
Whether they can charge your credit card or not is not the issue. You actually endorse them to do so by signing the contract as this is perfectly normal when you hand in the car without getting the bill straight away. When hiring a top of the range car you cannot by the way do this without leaving your credit card details i.e. cash only does not work without leaving a hefty deposit. In some instances you even have to leave the details of two credit cards. I think it is perfectly normal and legitimate that they charge you for the wear and tear of 15 rounds of the Ring. If you were to hire a car for that specific purpose at the Ring they would have factored those costs into the price and you would have paid more than the 100 euros a day that you probably paid. More interestingly you probably drove around the Ring without insurance cover as well. Sorry I am not normally very supportive of car rental firms but .......
