Sold my 964 C2 Targa earlier this year, and am now the proud owner of a 1996 Silver C2 Coupe!

Have already booked a track day for Silverstone at the end of November...and am already wondering about suspension and wheels. The car came with almost worn tyres on 18" rims, they look great but I wonder if I might be better off buying 16" or 17" wheels for everyday use and saving the 18" for track days (with appropriate tyreage). Also wondering if the suspension needs refreshing as the car is 10 years old with 74,000 miles....and what combination is best.

I'm mainly worried about knackering my road tyres at the track day and decent ride over bumpy b-roads which is where I mainly drive.

The suspension feels OK to me, but I don't have the experience to know whether a refresh / upgrade is required. My instinct tells me that stiffer / lower suspension with 16" wheels will be the best compromise, using the 18" with road-legal track tyres for track days only (enabling me to drive to and from).

All advice / experience welcome. Will post pics at some point soon.

Congratulations!

You'll find that there are plenty of threads about suspension upgrades for these cars, and the general consensus would seem to be that a car with the mileage of your 'new' purchase will be due a suspension replacement. My 993 turbo had 50 kmiles when I bought it and was wallowing over crests and dips like a drunken porpoise!

I fitted the Bilstein PSS9 kit, which lowers the ride height of a standard car down to M030 level, i.e. about 3 cm lower all round. It's supposedly a good kit for the track because of the damper adjustability, but I don't track mine so can't report back on that point. It did transform the car and make it much more reassuring to drive, but others have achieved the same effect for less outlay fitting the H&R springs with Bilstein shocks.

Search the forum for the relevant discussions, and a good website to look at available kits is www.carnewal-europe.com/main.htm

Best of luck

Congratulations!! Was it the one for sale at eporsch? I bought a pre-varioram model about 4 weeks ago from Ray Northway.

Congratulations!

Now then. In my experience at ten years old your cars suspension will need refreshing. This may not be apparent until you have driven the car for some time. The original dampers will be well passed their best and even if the car has not covered a high mileage the various rubber bushes will have hardened with age. I have a 96 C4 Coupe in Silver (the fastest colour). I had M030 springs and anti roll bars fitted together with Bilstein HDs and new from lower arms. Do some searches as there is much to read on the subject.

I would recommend 17" wheels as the best compromise for road use. 16" wheels look seriously puny (you can pick them up for peanuts on ebay) and 18" are not sufficiently compliant IMO.

Do not log onto carnewal.com without first placing your credit card in a locked draw. Carnewal will just feed your addiction.

Let me plant a few more seeds in the spirit of the moment; Motorsound airbox, RSR exhaust boxs, HID headlights and short shift kit.

Enjoy!

Yes, bought from eporsch, went to see the 964 Coupe as well but it never got a look in!

Thanks chaps, my first jobs are to get the wheels balanced and then fit a baby seat for my 2 year old.

I'll leave the car as is until I've done Silverstone, by then hopefully I'll have a better idea of what I want/need - then it'll be over to JZM.

Having said that, I'm already looking to remove the rear wiper and change the front wipers over to rest on the passenger side, the HIDs would be nice, and with winter approaching, is the perfect time to do it.

Email me for a HID kit (£130 inc side lights) and some nice ovals to match that lovely body shape

Here's a pic from the eporsch site, hope Roly doesn't mind. I don't have a internet at home at the moment so can't upload to PH or anything.

Ugh I've just noticed, it's got a square orange side indicator - must get that sorted ASAP.

Very nice.

I had this car on a short list to see. As it turned out, I bought a Silver 993 Targa before I got around to going to see this one but I was impressed by what I had seen in the ad.

Enjoy!

That looks like Polar Silver - same as mine. In fact it could be my car apart from the square side repeaters (I got the oval clears from aceparts above) and also mine has the 17inch Cup 2 wheels. It's a beauty.
