OK, I've posted I'm aimimng to buy a 993 or 996 in next couple of weeks. I've been out in a 996 & was impressed. I now need to see a decent 993 & what it can do. Anyone generous enough to show off their 993 to a noob. Ideally I would like someone to take me out & show me what they really can do (not lunatic stuff mind you) ....I'm not asking to drive the car myself, just to experience the car & see if I can make an informed decision of which one to go for. Can give out home telephone number, work telephone number etc, for people to check I'm not a fraudster Even happy just to see a decent model without the drive if need be.

No probs if no-one wants to offer...I know it's a cheek.... just thought it was worth asking I would try a local dealer, but can't find any 993's near Cheltenham area at the mo, plus I trust enthusiasts to be honest with pro's & cons of car.

I'd have been very happy to oblige, as a 993 owner of just over two weeks, but I'm not exactly local I'm afraid.

If you get no joy here, you may want to try the Porsche Club of GB forum and try the 993 board and the regional board for your particular area.

I'd happily show you what a 993 can do - i've done 70k miles in four of them in the last five years, including 2 C2's, a 4S, and a Turbo. Currently back in a C2 (mainly for the noise and the purity of the responses).

I reckon there are a few people on here who have experienced a 993 being driven fairly briskly on the road at my hands, i'm sure they'd be able to clarify if i was dangerous or not! Yes, i like sliding them, but no i've never span one.

If you find yourself in the Berkshire neck of the woods sometime, drop me a line.

Agreed, as I've had several sports motorbikes to date ...... traffic, what traffic ?

Although there would be very few roadcars to keep up with top end sports bikes for outright acceleration....(scooby bashing was a fun term used ), after experiencing the 996 cornering capabilities it would take a very good bike rider to keep up with a mediocre 911 driver through some tight twisties. The cars seem that good. Now chuck a decent driver in a 911 & it would take a very special rider to out do the Porsche.

That place (Blade performance cars?) opposite the shell garage on the way into Cheltenham on the A40 sometimes has 993s. They had one with a GT2 kit recently. I have heard recommendations they are not a good place to deal with, however. Still, they have nice stock.

What do you drive at the moment? Just so I know to look out for you! (I live opposite Honda near the train station).

If you do decide on a 993, I may know a very very nice, fairly local, late model targa (big sliding roof, I've heard these are the most desirable 993?) in blue, that the owner could be convinced to sell, I could find out how much he wants.

Know the garage well as I bought a new Triumph Daytona 675 from their in the summer. Here's a piccy I took of it :-

Now sold, before I lost my license ....so currently have no car. I just bought the missus a BMW 120D sport which I use now & again. I did check their stocklist but no 993's at the mo, plus I wasn't impressed by the Sales manager there who refused to believe his Y reg Boxster S at £24K was too high at June time this year & made the stupid statement that a year on I would get the same money back for it !!! Amazingly enough when I stated I would buy the car if he would give me £24K for it next year, he declined .. lol . Lastly he stated it was impossible to find any Boxster under £20K.... at that point I lost patience with the bloke.

When i had my 993tt i used to take great pleasure in chasing down bikes. One particularly memorable trip along the Fosse Way following a pair of 'blades and a gixxer thou and an R1, eveytime they overtook i did took, and every junction the back pair would turn around and look at me suspiciously.
Eventually they got bored of me so they pulled over and waved me through, i carried on at my normal pace, they kept up through the straighter sections but after three long corners they were specs in the mirror and i didn't see them again until i stopped to fill the tank half an hour later. As i was going inside to pay they rolled in to the forecourt so we had a nice chat and a quick smoke.

Still miss my 'Blade though

Amazing!!

This gives the car trade a bad name in some ways...

He has paid too much for that car. We've an "04" well spec'd Boxster 2.7 facelift in for not much more, and a very nice 2.5 with leather, climate and more at less than £17k.

Just as well you knew your cars better than he did!!

I think that car is probably worth £18000 - £19000 no matter what the spec.
