Remember a post a while ago wondering when the first sub 50k 997 would be offered by OPC. Well, its here.

OPC Swindon have a manual Guards Red/Black 10/04 997 Carrera (non S) with 6.5k miles for £49,999.

Spec of:
18 inch Carrera III wheel
BOSE Surround Sound System
Deletion of model designation
Manual gearbox
ParkAssist (parking aid rear)
Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM)
Rear wiper
Sports seats
Three-spoke sports steering wheel in leather
Windscreen with grey top tint

Not an amazing spec but pretty decent.

Car may be two years old but it's hardly been driven (6.5k). If you like red 997s then this is a pretty affordable way of getting yourself into a new model 911.

Not dragging up the old topic but if I'd just shelled out £55k on a Cayman.... I'd be worried...!!

No matter the price, you just can't drive a non-S 997. Lucky Cayman S buyers...;-)

Let's see how long a thread the Cayman-911 debate will generate

Yeah, Tim Parker, who I have bough a few cars from through OPC Swindon, phoned me the other day to see if I knew anyone who wanted a great value 997! Apparently they've had it on their books for 8 months and can't get rid of it due to the colour, maybe worth a cheeky offer!

Personally I think Porsches look fantastic in Guards red.

But I'm obviously in the minority based on the number of cars we now see in godamn boring mondeo silver and mind numbingly dull dark blue!

That should get them going....

Have to agree... non-S Carrera is still one helluva motor: 325bhp, 5.4secs to 60mph, etc

I'd much rather have a non-S Carrera than a Cayman S.... Actually I did..!!

and lack of nav/phone modules I suspect, less so phone - not arguing pros and cons but these are fast becoming insisted-on options on a 911, and yes I know its an oxymoron.

8 months in stock!! worth going in at 3k under IMHO and buy a tomtom/set of 19s with the change

I think 3k under might be too generous, they probably only paid 43k for the car anyway knowing the OPC hatred of any Guards red car...unless your buying one from them of course.soapbox

Agreed. The crafty ones will buy reds and so on right now because, in a couple of years I expect the "silver-is-best-for-resale" bubble to burst and for people to move back to more interesting colours. I'm just surprised it hasn't happened already.

I like red 911's but would always be suspicious that a red one started off as a demonstrator/pres car and as such, it *might have* had a hard early life...

P.S. I saw a cracking 996TT in red with black leather earlier this year.

I drove one at the ring 2 weeks ago and thought it was a cracking car. Never thought I would have said it before. Once I drove it I was well impressed. Kleonard has the beast of all 911's (GT2) and he thought it was gr8. (apart from the bill!!)laugh

These options can be retrofitted at a price. My 997 does not have them but to be honest I have never missed them-I hate talking to people on the phone at the best of times and nowardays I only tend to go places I already know!!

Sounds good value initially, but itss still 80% of its cost at nearly 3 years old including options. should be £37-£40k.......

Yes, a standard 997 has 30 hp more than a Cayman S but also quite a bit more weight. In a straight line that does not provide any advantage but in the corners that's where the Cayman S excels (see Hockenheim lap times...). So why would anyone in his right mind pay the massive premium a 911 commands just to have no performance benefit at all? You must be either a poser or need four seats, which could also get from a minivan...

You could also be 6'4", no chance of fitting into a Cayman - with any comfort that is !!

I'm not sure what 6'4" is in continental measures. I'm 1.94 tall, drove two Boxsters for some years and had no problem with the Cayman S either. Sure, it's more Savile Row than Armani. If you want more space, there is still the Espace...

They have dropped the cost of that car since I looked at it on Saturday.

It has been dropped by at least £4,000.

I actually think it was up for sale for £54,999.

I think they sell 911's for £10K more than they give as a p/x (or something along those lines).

Certainly I have just had a cost to P/X our Boxster and they were suggesting a p/x of £33,000 with the car retailing close to the £40,000 mark. So I guess £10K on a 911 isn't too bad a guess.
